We've never let the sleep with us before, but we do occasionally let them in to wake us up at the weekends.

I think the change is because they've grown up, and their voices and scratching is a little louder.

There's not really anyway to shut them in a different part of the house and I'm not keen on letting them in the room at night, I'm far too light a sleeper and they like to move around.

Any suggestions?

I think you already know that if you can't shut them in another room, they will be asking to get in. so the only solution is to let them in, and teach them to follow your schedule. My cat used to like to run and play in the night, but I made sure he played a lot in the evening, he ate just before i went to bed, I kept him awake in the day, so now when I go to bed he follows and sleeps during all the time I sleep.
If your cats are 6-12 months old, don't panic, this is the naughty age. As tehy grow more they will sleep nicely and quietly in a bed beside your bed.

I've had cats all my life and the first thing I learned is...if a cat sees a shut door it's not going to be happy until it sees what's on the other side.

Another thing I've learned is, if you don't want a cat to do go into a certain room or don't want them on a certain piece of furniture you can't let them in that room or on the furniture once in awhile and them all of a sudden decide you don't want them there.
If you didn't want them in your room at all, you should have never left them in the room on the weekends.
They are getting mixed signals from you...one time it's okay and then the next day it's not.

You either have to let them in all of the time or none of the time it can't be both ways.

The best thing to do would be just let the door open.
If you're a light sleeper.
Letting them in the room would be far less annoying than hearing them cry and scratching at the door all night long.

I trust the bottle of water approach. I stay on my own, and so favor to shop my position of abode door locked, and then my mattress room door locked even as i'm sound asleep, merely makes me sense safer. My cat has no reason to leave the room, he continuously makes use of his muddle in the previous mattress, and not in any respect makes use of it back until eventually after seven contained in the morning, so even as he change into waking up at 5 clawing to leave the room, he nevertheless would not use the muddle for hours. I positioned a bowl of nutrition and water in my room, and now merely shop his dishes in there each and every of the time, so as that he may have them by out the nighttime. yet another element which could be functional you is to make constructive they don't sleep for both-4 hours in the previous you bypass to mattress, conserving them up for that element body for a week can help you them get on the schedule on their very personal. also, I used the water bottle approach even as he would not stop. He now knows even as it truly is mattress time, or maybe as it truly is okay to awaken. Be prepared even with the actuality that for seasonal adjustments, even as the daylight comes up at 4 contained in the summer season, they could no longer understand why you're nevertheless in mattress. ;)

My husband and I will take turns about 15mins each to play with our cat in the evening after work so that his built up energy for the day is fully released. Cats sleep during the day when we are at work so when we are back from work they tend to need our attention to stimulate, exercise and alleviate their boredom. But once they're tired they may be able to rest quietly all through the night. Btw, we also let our cat sleep in with us on weekends only.
