I have three cats and am determined to put up my Christmas tree this year (last year my ex didn't let me because he was afraid the cats would knock it over). It is only a small tree (like three feet) that I usually put on my side table. I have some cute decorations and I love Christmas, but I don't want to clean up my ornaments every single day!! For you guys that deal with this all the time (I have only had cats for 2 years, and the first year I got my kitty in January so the tree was already down), how do you keep your cat away from the tree? I was thinking of putting it in my bedroom, so I could close the door when I'm not here, but then my friends and guests wouldn't see it. What if I attach it to the wall so that it won't be knocked over? I need your thoughts and tips, because like I said I love decorating but I don't want the cats knocking things over and eating ornaments!!

So I am wondering what other people here do with their dogs. There are so many things you can train your dog for such as obedience, agility, frisbee, herding, flyball, tracking, dock diving, earthdog, hunting, retrieving, sledding... and there's more.

So what do you do with your dog and why did you decide to pursue this?

Do you compete in that venue or just do it for fun?

Is it something you wanted to do with your dog because it was bred for that purpose or the breed happens to do really well at it?

Have you yet earned any titles on your dog in any particular area?

are the small guinea pig cages good for anything? I have a guinea pig in mine and I know the cage is WAY too small, so I was just wondering if it was actually good for something.

I have yet another stray cat in the yard. I do not know if it is a drop off, or a lost pet. It appears to be not yet a year old, though almost big enough to be. Skinny as a rail, friendly enough but shy. It has long fur so I cannot tell if it male or female, and I am thinking it must have some illness like parasites since it has obviously been outside for quite some time.
I am willing to get it to a vet and have it gone over completely, but have no where to keep it. It cannot be in the house as we have three other cats, so does anyone have any ideas where I can take this to get it adopted out? Three different animal hospitals around here all told me they are full, and do not accept full grown cats. I told them it looked like a kitten but bigger. It's cute-it looks like Sylvester the cat. I really don't want to leave it outside as when it cries, it's like ringing the dinner bell for the coyotes.
Any suggestions, please.

Okay, say you have a magic wand. All of a sudden you control all dog ownership in the world - breeders, rescues, shelters, everything. Without getting bogged down in the logistics of it all...

1. What about intact animals? Who would you give those to and why?
2. What are your criteria for dog ownership? Consider the following:
- marital status
- children (and ages)
- renting/owning a home
- having a yard (fenced or unfenced)
- motivation for wanting a dog
- willingness/ability to participate in basic obedience
- willingness/ability to participate in more advanced activities (agility, rally, flyball, tracking, hunting, herding, earthdog)
- employment status
- income
- hours the dog would be left alone
- beliefs regarding vet care
- beliefs regarding vaccinations
- beliefs regarding food

3. Would you let people choose their own dogs, or would you choose for them, forgoing the "but I thought Jack Russell Terriers were calm and cute, like Eddie on Frasier!" problem?

Your thoughts?

I need an AFFORDABLE WAY way to keep 6 mos old kitty (born under my house and left as orphan) warm in outside box, lined with something that will not attract moisture or outside rodents, but keep him warm in freezing conditions. I hear hay isn't a good idea. He is exclusively an OUTSIDE cat and cannot be brought indoors. Never been in cold conditions. I don't want to take him to the humane society just b/c I can't keep him warm and I don't know where else to take him. Surely there is something I can find -- and not have to purchase to make myself for his warmth... We have no $$ to spend on this endeavor. I know paper is a good insulator and I have boxes I can make him something, just not sure what to line it with. I also have some of those "wafflely" foam bedpads, but they don't stay warm. Please help.

My husband and I filled out an application to adopt a Berner on Sat. and I would like some information about the breed from people who have owned a Berner. We spent about and hour with "Emmett", he is aprox. 2 years old, about 90-100lbs., and seemed very laid back with my husband and I. My only consern was that his eyes were very blood shot.

When I shave above the eyes and around the muzzle, do I go with the hair or against it? I have always been a little afraid to razor her but I really should for my Halter class. Some people make like a heart shape to where just above the muzzle, a small peak is made... is that better or just to go all around?

How can I get a cat out of our shed house? It's taken up residence and refuses to come out! We tried to leave the door open and put milk in a cup right outside the door... (we never had cats, so we know very little about them) He's obviously stray, and must have gotten in there when we were putting decorations (halloween) away... now it's urinating, and living in there, I am affraid that it's sick, or will die!! HELP!! Anyone have any suggestions on how to get him the heck out of there!? Thanks!!

Hi, I have a 1 year old spriger spainiel/ lab cross, and she needs surgery for a torn tendon in her hind right knee. I have read some articles, where some say the surgery can prove very painful for the dog afterward, their changes of arthritis increase and in some cases, the dog does better without the surgery ?
Does anyone have any information about this surgery ? Apparently they are going to take the torn tendon out and put in an artificial replacement? Any info with regards to recovery time and sucess rate ?

Thankyou

I've check the obvious but I can not for the life of me, discover how my lab is escaping the yard...

She only does it maybe once in a three month period, but this is unacceptable behavior and she could get hit by a car.

He has had seizures for a little over a year, almost one every month, latley theyve been occuring daily, and today I went to check on him and it was like he didn't know me. He dodges ad walks away when I try to pet him, and he doesn't respond to things I normally say, or games I play with him. He does respond to his name but that seems to be it. He is a 3 year old German Sheperd around 140 lbs.
