In the U.K. you can pay up to £12. for a Budgie,(Parakeet) if that is what you are meaning otherwise for a Cockatiel depending on colour mutation £15 -£30.Grass Parrakeet's ie.Bourke's, Spendids,Red Rumps, etc £30-£50.
Best deals are found by contacting a good breeder or a repute-able dealer.

Find a breeder or rescue. Pet stores often get their birds from Parrot Mills, and are highly untamed. Should you decide to get one, you should look for a breeder. They cost more from a breeder, since many breeders hand feed and hand tame their babies, whereas Pet Store babies will not be tamed at all. Breeders (depending on the location) will go for about $20-$50 for an American Budgie ("Parakeet") and in petstores, they will go for $7-$10

If you want to look for a breeder, BirdBreeders.com is a good place to find reputable breeders. Search BUDGIES on that site to find them. Or look at the Ads in the back of Bird Talk magazines.

In America they can run from almost nothing for standard birds to a hundred dollars for extremely fancy versions. I have had several in my life. In my experience, the ordinary blue parakeets last the longest and have the fewest problems.

The really fancy ones never seem to last very long. The Green do not either at least for me. The first parakeet I ever owned was a blue one we named Ricky. He lasted thirteen years and never had any health problems.

If you get from a breeder, you could get it as low as $8, at a petshop, it goes for about 17-20 dollars.

It's a bit difficult to find breeders though, but if you can, it'd be better since they know budgies more...

about 15 bucks, look for a bird with color all the way to its nose, if it has white above the nose it is a older bird and not a baby
