My 5-6 year old female cat normally drinks a lot of water during the day -- I would guess at around a 1/2 cup a day. She's not acting sick, and she generally has a large amount of energy. Should I be concerned?

I cannot afford to go to the vet but I am curious as to what it could be. It's getting better with me just wiping it clean with water, so I think it is clearing up, but like I said, I am curious what it is. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have never heard my tortoise make this sound before, and it scares me. I think that it might be dehydrated, but I'm not sure.

Hey everybody-

Just wondering what made you choose your breed of dog (if you have a breed). Maybe it's their looks. Maybe it's their temperment. Maybe both. From Chihuahuas to Great Danes I think everybody has a certain breed that touches their heart or that shares their home. Maybe you've never even had a chance to own your favorite breed, but what makes a certain breed appealing to you? I know I've never owned a Great Pyrenese, but I've met a few at the shelter with exceptional personalities and I love them. For responsible breeders out there and everyday dog owners....what made you choose your breed? Did you grow up with them? Do you work with them? Do you find that once you've owned a certain breed you find that you're always going back to that breed? Why is that? Or maybe you have a breed that you hate (even if you've never met that breed of dog)....why do you think that is?

I've grown up with GSDs and I know that I'll always have one. Once a GSD lover always a GSD lover :)

My cat seems to have a problem with his claws at the moment. He keeps getting them stuck in things e.g. the carpet as he walks, the furniture if he stands up against it or your clothes if he’s sat on you. He doesn’t seem to be in pain with it just a bit surprised and panicked when he’s claws are stuck. His claws do seem quite long however he’s never had a problem before or needed his claws trimmed and I though cats do this naturally anyway. He’s always refused to use a scratching post or anything similar but like he said it’s never been a problem. Also at the base if his claws it looks red and if it’s sore – although he doesn’t complain even if you touch the red parts.

He’s otherwise fit and healthy.

Hope someone has an idea of what the problem is and how to stop it.

Thanks

My dog had puppies on Saturday. I read that I should take the afterbirths away as the puppies are born, so my dog won't eat them because it causes diarrhea. I wasn't home when she went into labor and she ate 5 afterbirths. Everything went fine with the births and we have 6 healthy puppies, but I'm just kind of waiting for her to get diarrhea. Its monday afternoon and all she's had is a lot of gas (she's eating and drinking normally and going outside to go to the bathroom, but not unusually often). Does anyone have experience with their dogs eating afterbirths? Did it give them diarrhea?

I know they're bad for dogs because of swellings in the guts but my dog gets one to chew on sometimes. He's the kind of dog that I don't see much of a risk for as he's not a heavy chewer. Judge only will chew when there's humans nearby. He really only scrapes his back teeth against it, probably because he came to us with poor dental health and his gums and teeth are weak. Plus he has a Nylabone available as well which he normally prefers. Is it safe for him to have some rawhide sometimes?

Well this mornin she started makin a loud scream every 30 or so seconds and then she started not bein able to walk at all then just died 15 min later. SHe was breathin really hard. As far as I knew she was healthy , I gave her her heartworm pills every month and took her to the vet regularly,, she was only 5 and they usually live between 10 to 15 yrs. Could she have had an heart attack?
