My 5-6 year old female cat normally drinks a lot of water during the day -- I would guess at around a 1/2 cup a day. She's not acting sick, and she generally has a large amount of energy. Should I be concerned?

If this is something that has changed in the last few months, or if she's losing weight at the same time, I'd take her for a checkup. She might need a "fructosamine" test. This is a blood test that checks the level of glucose in her blood. If it's too high, she could have diabetes. To be on the safe side...get her checked out, if this is a change in her behavior. Good luck.

Some cats do drink more than others, but i would get her to the vets for a check up as it can also be a sign of diabetes, kidney, or bladder problems, good luck, hope she is just a thirsty cat.
