When I shave above the eyes and around the muzzle, do I go with the hair or against it? I have always been a little afraid to razor her but I really should for my Halter class. Some people make like a heart shape to where just above the muzzle, a small peak is made... is that better or just to go all around?

If you're doing an actual breed show, you want the hair completely removed from around the eyes and muzzle so you go against the hair. I've always then blended a bit going with the hair so there isn't a definite line where the clipping stopped. It's really difficult to explain exactly how to clip because it's so hands-on. Do the head starting from right underneath the forelock with a 10 or 15 blade against the hair. Angle out both directions towards the eyes until you reach the bottom of the jawbones and clip all the way under the jaw. Then use a 30 or preferably a 40 blade to clip the muzzle around the nostrils and mouth in kind of a heart shape. Then do the area above each eye. I usually use a 30 blade to blend with a VERY light hand. I've tried to find a good head shot of a correctly clipped Arabian, but I can't find anything that shows the detail really well. If I can be anymore help, feel free to send me a message. I've worked as a professional groom up to the national level before for Cedar Ridge Arabians and as an assistant trainer/groom for Conway Arabians so I do know what I'm talking about.

Well if you have an Arabian Horse Than the grooming will be MUCH diff rent than on an original horse. An Arabians coat is more sleek and thugs will irritate it more than you can imagine! Also an Arabian Horse has a very sensitive muzzle and around the eye area. If you do have to groom around the eye of an Arabian make sure to have a treat in hand. An Arabian will love to get groomed. Just make sure to use a smaller Currier brush with VERY soft Bristles! I have 2 Arabians that I take care of and they need special care. You CAN NOT use ordinary fly or bug spray. They need the stuff by usesing a RAZER as you mention above that is the easiest hting and yes just go all the way around that will make it a lot easer for you.

In the more sensitive areas (like on the muzzle and above the eyes), you should go with the hair so it is not as shocking and sensitive to them. In the less sensitive areas (saddle area, forelock) go against the hair. This will be more effective because there is more hair, and they won't feel it at all.

It depends on your preference whethere to go all the way around or to make the heart shape. Whichever you feel comfortable doing and whichever you like best.

Hope this helps!

Good luck in your class!

Just shave the long "whiskers" from the muzzle. Eye shaving is a recent afectation to make their eyes appear larger. It has the opposite affect. Olive oil his muzzle, eyes, inside his ears, and don't forget his anus. seious, you want to present a pretty picture as you move away from the judge. Olive oil is inexpensive and good for their skin.
