I see the names thrown around a lot to describe various dogs, whether it be too tiny (teacup) or a "designer mutt" (oodles, poos, and so on). I am curious as to how people feel about the free use of these terms, even in a rescue situation?

I feel, that by using these terms, even if the dog was rescued, we are promoting and marketing for the bad breeders who produce these too tiny or mixed breed dogs. I will never use a name like this to ever describe a dog. I just can't imagine doing this. You don't know who might be listening and think it a good "breed" to get as a result of you talking highly of your dog. That person may not realize the whole story, like that your dog was a rescue. Then they may not go in search of one as rescue, but rather look for one of these "for profit" breeders.

So I'm just curious what other think on the idea of us using these names and free marketing for the bad breeders, and puppy mills?

The house has been treated. The cats and dog have been shampooed and Frontlined. It's been a week since I saw a live flea anywhere. The dog is scratching herself raw on the belly and butt. I think she's allergic to the flea bites. I've done a little online research and I have read that Benedryl is safe for dogs with flea allergies- I will double check with the vet. My question to you is- has anyone tried an organic or all natural soothing cream or spray on a dog with similar problems? When I've had poison Ivy or bug bites I used Aveeno oatmeal lotions and I was wondering if anyone knows if this is safe for the dog or if there is something similar out there. Now that the fleas are gone I think the scratching will stop if I can just soothe the red areas...What do you think?

As always, thanks!

Lola got spayed on Monday. She has been on the prescribed pain meds. She had been eating a little until yesterday when she started to eat more normally. But...she has not gone number 2 since her surgery. The last time was Monday morning. Is this normal? Can the meds be the cause. What should I do? Do I need to talk to the vet?

Just got myself a 10 gallon aquarium kit at Wal-mart. Put the little rocks and decorations in....fake plants, a castle with holes in it and a dragon. Kit included a filter and heater so I put those in. Added the water...saleslady told I had to put some drops in so the fish could breathe. She said to wait awhile before I put in the six goldfish I just bought, which I did. Plugged everything in...now what? Fish look happy swimming around chasing each other.

I just bought this bearded dragon about a week ago and all he ever eats is mealworms. I have these bearded dragon bites but he doesnt really like those and hardly ever eats them. i believe he wasnt brought up with fruits or greens because he doesnt want to eat them he only eats his worms. my question is, if i keep putting greens and fruits around him will he eventually eat them? hes about 3 years old. i have also seen videos on youtube on dragons eating, and they eat alot compared to mine. Should i give him crickets or pinkies? or what?

I have a terrior mix dog and my girlfriend has 2 cats, tabby I believe. I have once seen my dog at a groomer's roaming the room freely with a loose cat and they both seemed okay, but I just have that concern. My dog can be loud and aggressive, especially when he sees another animal outside. He also is a "chaser". I would like to know the easiest way to introduce or try to see if my dog would get along with her 2 cats as we do plan on moving in together and we don't want to have to make a sacrifice. I also don't want to rely on the one time I saw him and a cat roaming around a room. Any ideas or suggestions?

Oh, and one of her cats is an older female who kind of just lays around and is pretty calm. The other is still quite young, a male, and is always the "center of attention", so to speak.

the same cage?? We have him in a 75 gallon aquarium now. We just got our younger son a female beardie we named Saphira (the guy at the pet store said he was 95% it was a female). He seemed to think they would be fine together....once she got big enough. She is in a 20 gallon tank for now. Draco is just over 1 year old and Saphira is only about 6 to 8 weeks old. Anyway WE DO NOT WANT TO BREED THEM!! I've seen pictures on sites, calenders, ect with Beardies in the same enclosure. I just want to be sure it will be ok. We were told they will not breed unless we have everything right for them to breed. Is there anyone reading this that has more than one beardie sharing an enclosure??????

I took my 4 1/2 month old kitten to the vet recently because he was coughing really bad and wheezing all of the time. She just looked at him and said that he has worms and she gave me some medications to give him. I gave him the meds and he still has the same problem. Why would worms cause him to cough? That makes no sense to me at all. Do you think he has an upper respiratory infection? I hope i didn't waste money on those meds for nothing.

My male pit is 10 months old. He is alpha male I am pretty sure. He's a stubborn guy. He and his brother used to get into spats when they were little and it would end in us having to break them up. My friend had his brother, but she got rid of him. I would like to get another dog for him to have a friend. What kind of dog do you think would be a good breed so that they got along? I assume it would be a female, but I don't know what breed. I'd like it to be big enough for them to play together so I don't want like a chiuaua or however you spell that. He is neutered..any ideas?

Is this normal, about 24hrs ago, my 18month old cat recieved updates on her immunizations, she has been sleeping pretty much since then only waking to eat, drink, and use the litter, normally she is very very active and running wild, but today when I tried to rouse her all she did was have something to eat, use the litter and return to her basket. Is this normal right after immunizations?

I was told that you have to make the enviroment right?? We wanted to get another beardie for our male Draco to have a buddy, and we were told that 2 males would fight and that a female would be fine to put with him, because they won't breed unless everthing is right?? Anyway we don't want to breed them, just want them to have a friend to hang with. Now we have little Saphira, which we think is a female. Can anyone help me with this question???

I have had 2 ferrets for 10 yrs that both recently passed away 2 years ago. I trained them fine, and I never had any probelms. I just got a new ferret about a month ago and he is the nicest ferret. He litter trained quickly and is not aggressive. The other day I noticed when I stuck my hand in his cage I noticed he tensed up so I went to go pet him to calm him and he tried to bite me. So I have been messing with him to notice if I had just scared him, but have come to learn that he is an aggresive eater. He will snap at you and draw blood if you touch him while he eating. I dont want to discipline him in fear that it will get worse or take his food away because then he will think that Im going to take his food away all the time and in turn try and defend it. HELP! Ive had alot of experience with ferrets but this draws a blank.

I was reading some other questions/answers on here, and people talked about having a heartworm test done on their dogs before being prescribed preventative. It got me thinking... and I dont think the vet ever gave my dog a heartworm test before giving me Heartguard for her. There was never any mention of the test, and from what I have seen online, the test is done by blood sample and the only time she had blood drawn was when they were seeing if she was ok to go under when she got spayed at 6 months.

I also read online that if heartworm infection is uncommon in your area, they often do not test for it. Is this true?

If not, how much does the test usually cost so I can have it done when I take her to the vet?

If there is nothing medically wrong with your pet, weather it is a cat, dog, horse, bird, fish etc.
Do you think every animal should be able to experience having a baby (saying baby, as there are many names for offspring of animals).

I have a full grown 2 year old Alsatian and although he is completely trained and wouldn't hurt a fly whenever people see him they are weary and ask "Oh, is he alright, he doesn't bite does he?"

I just think would we bring him out i public and let him loose in the garden if he was vicious?

She's had it for ages and it has never looked infected and she's never bothered when I touch it. It just looks like a big white pointy lump nearly the size of my smallest fingernail (she's all white). I wonder if it's like some kind of harmless cyst that people get. Have you seen this kind of thing before?

I know there are different breeds considered under the title "pitbull", but in general are they good for a novice owner. I've heard they can be dominate and pushy.

My ex had these tiny lil cute bunnies and they where all males. If they wernt tryna hump each other they would tryna hump my slippers or the cat (which ate them in the end). Why are they willing to risk their lives for a shag? Is the call to spread their genes that great for them?
