All of the links in the above answers are very good sources. If you "google" the subject be very objective and consider the source of the information you are getting. Only trust organizations such as the above mentioned.

Which species did you purchase. There are several species of "star tortoise". Among the 'starred' group of tortoises are the Radiated, Spider and Flat-shelled tortoises of Madagascar and the Geometric and Tent tortoises of southernmost Africa.
My guess is that you have purchased an Indian Star Tortoise, which is not yet on the endangered list and much more common than the Burmese Star Tortoise & the Sri Lankan Star Tortoise.

You can use pictures to identify it at one of the links above. The Indian Star will have up to 6 tan/yellow lines radiating forom a center point of it's scutes. I believe a Sri Lankan has 12. It will be easy to identify if it is a sub-adult or adult. If it is a juvenile it can be much more difficult.

Also, the Indians would run 500.00-750.00, while a Burmese would run you 1000.00-2000.00 and a Sri Lankan hatchling hatchling or yearling would run 350.00-500.00.

If you found any of them cheaper let me know where from because I want a bunch of them...LOL!!!

If you mean a 'Star Tortoise', try
- http://www.tortoisetrust.org

If it is not a Star Tortoise, then you may be using a less common name for it that we do not recognize (no turtle is usually called a 'star turtle'). You can often identify a turtle at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com and go to the World of Turtles Gallery. They also have good turtle care sheets.

First, take the turtle back to the petsstore from where you got it. Next, grab a large rock or something blunt and beat yourself in the head several times for having a pet you know nothing about. Then do some research on it, read, read, read. Just kidding about the head beating thing. But, really... If you want your pet to live a long healthy life. Do your research. Good luck

nicely for starters i think of a purple eared slider is the terrific selection. even although they improve slightly large they're stunning pets. in case you wanna order a turtle on line verify it is a secure sight and a secure organization. maximum bulbs at shops value $4-12 ish. it in lots of situations varies on what length you have become... in the past you get a turtle be sure you get a perfect tank length (it relies upon on what length; ex: 4 inch turtle= 40 gallon tank etc) you like a basking area because of the fact even although turtles spend maximum of their time in water they want a place to dry off thoroughly. turtles want perfect heating (purple eared turtles can many times get used to the temp they're in, for this reason they're such large pets) maximum turtles consume crickets, worms, fish, and vegetables (do no longer supply THEM SPINACH VERY deadly TO THEM!!!!) in case you like there are tank "conditioners" on the marketplace in shops. you pour it in and it instintly cleans the tanks sorta like chlorine or some thing however the relaxing ingredient is which you would be able to shop the turtle interior the tank on a similar time as you sparkling it :-)! wish it facilitates

Aren't they endangered?

You're talking about a tortise with a black star design on it's tan-colored shell, correct?

If so, that turtle is quite endangered and I wonder how you got one.
