It would help if you at least told us the brand name.

Bad News: If your cat has fleas and has been inside the house with your other animals, ALL of them are going to get fleas. Fleas don't just live on animals, they live everywhere your cat goes and as the other animals go to the same places the fleas will jump on board. You can bathe the cat in a 1 part vinegar (white or apple cider) and 2 parts water bath, then comb out the fleas and eggs with a flea comb making sure to put all of the fleas in a glass of vinegar or alcohol, but the catch is you have to get every single one. Then you'll need to thoroughly clean your entire house (especially the carpeted areas), including vacuuming at least every other day, preferably every day, including areas underneath couches, etc. There's not guarantee that you're going to get them all before the other animals pick them up though. Your best bet would be to get the large 55+ pound (4 mil) tubes of advantage and divide them out among the animals (all the tubes are all the same formulation, just measured out by weight). The measurements are .4 mil for cats under 9 pounds, .8 mil for cats over 9 pounds, 1.2 mil for 21-55 pounds, and 4 mil for 55+. This can be measured out with a 3 mil syringe (minus the needle). Some places will sell the advantage one tube at a time, which saves major money, and with the large tubes containing 4 mil, you can usually treat quite a few smaller animals, and the cap can be put back on and the rest of it saved for use the next month. It really is important to treat with a safe pesticide if you want to really get rid of the fleas because these products sterilize the fleas, otherwise you have no guarantee that they'll ever go away.

Hey! I work for a vet and the flea meds from wal-mart aren't very safe or effective. They are safer for a dog than a cat though...they can kill cats...I've seen it happen. Your best bet is Frontline from your vet. Good luck! Also, ask for a Capstar pill...it will get rid of any fleas on your pet in 30 minutes, but it doesn't keep them off, so you'll need to put the frontline on also. Hope I've helped!

It's all poison and you have to follow directions. The main issue I've come up with when buying flea meds at Wally World is that they don't work. You're much better off using Frontline or Advantage...I prefer Advantage. It may be expensive, but it works VERY well.

I've worked with dogs for 4 yrs. So far I haven't heard of an un-safe flea medicine... but since it's a cheaper product more than likely, they usually don't last as long as the better quality brands from your vet. If it says it'll be a month's worth, it may only last 2-3wks.

yes it's safe. Why wouldn't it be? However, in my experience any of the over the counter flea remedies do not work for very long. I bought some for my cats and they still have fleas.

i wouldn't use any thing that the vet hasn't prescribed or suggested. i remember a few years back when Hartz (im pretty sure that is the product) was killing cats. flea collars dont work at all.

yep it was hartz back in 2002

Considering most of those who shop at Wal-mart probably have fleas, I don't think so.

They may be fine for a dog (though aren't nearly as effective as Advantage or Frontline) but can be VERY TOXIC to cats! Our recommendation is don't use them.
