Is this normal, about 24hrs ago, my 18month old cat recieved updates on her immunizations, she has been sleeping pretty much since then only waking to eat, drink, and use the litter, normally she is very very active and running wild, but today when I tried to rouse her all she did was have something to eat, use the litter and return to her basket. Is this normal right after immunizations?

Wow you have a "normally" "active" cat? Thats the oddest thing Ive ever heard. Even my kittens are lazy.

Sometimes they will get a little tired after shots Don't worry yet. She is eating and drinking then she is fine.

Whenever you have a concern like this, it's best to call the vet. That way the vet can try to figure out if the cat has had a reaction to any of the vaccines and make sure it goes into her records so it doesn't happen again. Even if the vet only gives you reassurance that your cat is okay, it's best to call anyway. I've had cats that sometimes don't feel well, sort of mope around, after a vaccination, but my cats are indoor cats and only get the minimum of vaccinations.

Watch your cat carefully and if this doesn't go away in a few days or gets worse, take the cat to the vet.

Sometimes vaccines make animals feel a little down and "crappy" just like some of them do for us especially if she received more then one on the same day.

Since she is still eating, drinking and using the bathroom she doesn't need to be rushed into the vet. However, a call to the vet would be a good idea just to settle your worries. Sometimes animals can have reactions to vaccines so you will have to keep a close eye on her. Watch for any vomiting, diarrhea, stops eating/drinking/bathroom or swelling around the injection area and face. If you see any of these things then a trip to the vet is necessary. These reactions aren't all that common but they do happen. Animals with a history of reactions to vaccines are often given benadryl (or animal equivalent) before the visit to the vet to avoid the later reaction. Of course do not give your cat benadryl without the advice of the vet and proper dosage.

So advice for right now would be call your vet and explain the change in behavior since the vaccines and take their advice from there. Of course if you notice any of the reactions I listed above then a trip to the vet as soon as possible would be best (especially swelling around the face as that could lead to suffocation).

Good luck. Hope your cat is doing better soon.

Vaccinations often make cats sleepy - and it varies from cat to cat. I've had cats that bounced back after a very few hours and cats (usually the smaller ones) do little but sleep for a day and a half. If the situation persists past 48 hours, though - it's time for another vet visit. Cats sometimes have reactions to one or more of the vaccines.

If your cat has had other vaccines without that reaction, it is better to call the vet. As all vaccination can cause an intolerance to the injected substance, or an overreaction, maybe with elevated temperature and signs of discomfort., the best is not to wait too long. Even if she toleratet it well other times, vaccine can be of a different composition that makes her feel weaken.
Give her a big hug with my best whishes !

Yes this is typical of some cats. Same way with kids too. Many are either really sleepy or really cranky. Keep a close eye on her for any other symptoms otherwise just let her rest. Her body has to process the vaccine and typically they sleep through that.

I have seen my cat do that if they had a lot of vaccinations at one time, also may be unhappy with the whole vet experience. So long as the cat is eating and drinking I would just watch her a bit longer. You may want to ask your vet also just in case one of the vaccines can cause this.

We don't vaccinate the cats here, but it doesn't sound like something related to vaccines either. It sounds like when our cat had tick born disease. He ended up having a high fever and not eating at all - had to force feed for 2 weeks to recover him.

Definitely call your vet and let then know what it happening. It could be an infection.

Don't worry too much, she will be back to her old self in a day or two. Vaccines take a toll on a cat's body. That's why I choose thye three year plan for my cats. It is healthier especially if they are indorr cats.
She'll be fine. If she's not in 3 or more days then consider calling your vet.

Most animals will be tired after a vet visit, especially if they get vaccinated during the visit. It is normal for her to be tired but if it goes on for a few more days or she shows more symptoms- you should call the vet (even though I'm sure she is fine).
