I have a American Quarter Horse who is 18 and full of potencial. I bought her in August of 06. We are perfect for each other and have a great bound. But my question is, is can I jump her and how high? She seems as if she has been shown in english. And I took her over a jump that was 12 inches tall and she went over it fine. Do you think we could jump higher? the reason why I am asking is because of her age and the breed.

I used to have a canopy around my bed and then I got kittens.
I have had them for five months and I'm not sure if they are going to rip it up. I took it down because I knew that they were little and they didn't understand and so now that they are bigger I'm not sure if it's time to put it back up.
(Sorry, it sounds like a stupid question but I don't want to go out a buy a new one if I can prevent them from ripping it up in the first place)

She refuses to sleep in her new bed for some strange reason. Its lovely and warm, soft n cosy and half enclosed. At first i thought it might make her feel suffocated but i find her sleeping in really tight dark corners all the time. She's also quite old (18yrs) so i thought she might not like new things but when i placed a new cushion next to the bed she preffered to sleep on the cushion than inside the cosy bed! I don't understand? why doesn't she like it? It was bought to keep her warm at night as she suffers from arthritis but she just isn't interested. We've had it for over a month now and its caught all the homely smells so still can't imagine why she wont curl up on it?

I have a 15 yr old female cat. We recently moved to another state and are living with a relative that has two cats--one female and one male. My cat has always been the only cat in the house and is not willing to make friends. Usually they ignore each other or hiss when they see each other, but within the last week my cat has started urinating on the carpet outside the two other cats' room. The house is very open ( a 3 story town house) and it is not easy to keep the cats in separate locations. Is this behavior a territory marking issue? Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Thanks

You wanted a family pet........A guard dog.........A substitue child....
A status symbol...........A friend to stop being lonely etc....

I ask this because I wanted an Akita so that it could be a family pet that has guarding abilities. I also wanted it to help me to exercise everyday. I love my dog and give him everything he needs. Exercise....Discipline......Affection.... He has given me more than I could ever give him. He has filled all my expectations and more.........Why did you get your dog? What were your motives?
Has your dog fullfilled your desires? Are you fullfilling his/hers?
PLEASE LIST THE BREED.

I have an 8 year old cat that I am considering having declawed but was told that if I thought of how the proceedure was done, I'd reconsider. I was told to think of myself as a cat, look at my hands at the first knuckle up from my fingernail and try to vision this part of my hand gone. This is how cats are declawed. In other words, the claws aren't cut off, the entire first joint of the cats claw are cut off. This sounds very painful. Any comments from anyone? Veterinarians welcome to respond. Thanks!

Hi, my two year old Great Dane/Shepherd mix is shuttering. He sleeps, eats and plays like normal, he just starts shuttering once in a while. I explained it to the vet like "when you get a sharp pain and tense up" that's what it's like... he does this about every ten seconds, but not all the time. He has an appt on Thursday for the vet, but I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this with their dog?
Thanks!

I have a new puppy and he is 6 weeks old. I am thinking enrolling in a training class at PetSmart but I don't know if I should start right away or wait until he is a little older.

My cat vomits most mornings between 630am and 8am, before she has eaten. She is otherwise healthy, and has a sleek coat, bright eyes and a good appetite. Though she is elderly at about 12 years. Her diet is sachets of cat food (I do vary the brand), and she wont eat buiscuits.
I would appreciate any advice you could give.

she just gets too much sometimes, she claws at my drapes, tearing them down. knocks everything off my nightstand, claws at my clothes. sits and meows all night. ive tried wearing her out by playing before bedtime, but she's still so hyperactive, running up and down the hall knocking her food and water bowl over. i really hate getting cross at her, but need to show her some discipline. how can i do this? i'd be really grateful for some tips

I "adopted" a very peaked silver crowned from the pet store (you've done it too, don't laugh!!). In my own defense I didn't pay for him, they gave him to me. He's small and lethargic, and his fins are thready and fragile. No rot, no spots, no dropsy, no bugged-out eyes. he just floats and breathes verrrry sllllloooowly. He's in quarantine for the time being. Any suggestions?

I have a 5 mo. old Lab/pit mix. She is very well trained except when I take her for walks. Even when I try to tire her out she insists on pulling. When she sees other people she'll pull so hard that she's standing on her hind legs. She is never agressive towards other people or pets. She just wants to play.

my dog has a skin irritation (theres yeast present) and she is on antibiotics and has to be bathed every 5 days with a special shampoo. My vet said try a different dog food but he didn't want to prescribe anything yet. we're doing meds first, but I do want to change her food. she's eating Beneful for mature dogs now but that may be one of the causes. can anyone recommend a good dry dog food.

I have a cockerspaniel and she's 14 years old. She's always sleeping and she only gets up to eat or drink water and goes to the bathroom. Not at all lively. She can't climb up the stairs anymore but she does jump on the couch after walking back and forth gaining strenght to jump. How much life does she have left? 1 or 2 years more you think?

I have bought two types of battey powered automatic feeders - a round one with 5 sections that turns automatically, and a Le Bistro unit with a digital timer and automatic dispenser. She has figured out how to get food out of both of these. Are there any feeders that are cat tampering proof? Is there a way to cure my cat of overeating? Thank you!

We have a 10 gallon tank with mollys' in it. The tank is cleaned every weekend with a major water change at least once a month. Some of the fish have been developing spots over the last month or so. The lighter colored fish have white blotches on their fins, and the darker colored fish have black spots on their body and fins. None of these spots resemble salt, so I don't think it's ich/ick. The only way I can really describe what the white spots look like is spilled milk on the fish. Any ideas what this could be?

We were gone for approx. 2 hours. When we returned our dog was completely freaked out. She kept demanding that we go downstairs and then go into each room as if we needed to check them for something. Then she was very sensitive to any noise for the rest of the night. The next morning when I went into my sons room she freaked at me, growled and showed her teeth. As if she was completely terrified. She has NEVER done anything like this. She is not a whining dog nor a aggressive dog. What could have happened in those 2 hours alone?
