It's wonderful that you gave a home to a homeless cat.
You should take her to the vet if you can. The vet will be able to tell you about her health, you'll be able to get her updated on her shots for her safety and yours, and she can tell you how old she is as well as whether she's been spayed.

It can be very difficult to determine if a cat has been spayed. Even if a vet shaves the belly and looks the scar may not be apparent. I would assume that an ultrasound would show if the organs (ovaries and uterus) were not there. That's expensive however.
I think you must keep her inside to find out if she goes into heat (which is a SURE sign she has not been spayed). Of course if you just acquired her she could have mated and started gestation. I would question the vet about it as she should be examined by one anyway as she made need treatment for fleas, worms or other parasites, etc.

you could take to the vet also try looking at tummy should have a little scar or skin will look tighter where they stitch that part back together---if it was recently done you will see where hair was shaved but best bet taking to vet for shots anyway there are very low cost spay and neuter clinics around and they offer shots and spaying done they____I also want to say you are a great person for taking in a stray there are many out there and it takes a fun loving caring person to rescue an animal....I have rescued 3 or 4 at least past couple of years and a cat already this year

First of all, I commend you for adopting a homeless cat. I hope you spoil it rotten!
Secondly, this first thing you need to do is take it to the vet for a check-up and shots. You need to find out if it has any diseases to be concerned with and get it vaccinated against diseases that can kill it. When you take the cat for this check-up the vet can tell you what "it" is.
Good luck!

For my cat, her tummy fur never really grew back. Otherwise... wait a few weeks until she goes into heat. Ask the vet. You should bring the cat in for shots anyway.

A spayed cat will have a little scar on her tummy. And I don't know if they do this everywhere or not but in Houston, Texas and surrounding areas/towns, they put a little tattoo on their bellies when they have been neutered or spayed. It's a circle with a horizontal line going through it.

Take the cat to the vet - he may be able to find the scar, or x-ray the cat to see if she has her ovaries. On a male, it would take just a quick exam to decide.

If its a male, it won't have it's family jewels. If its a female, you might find the spay scar, but they can be very tiny and difficult to find, especially if they were spayed young. In that case the vet can probably tell you.

I would recommend talking to your vet about it and see if he/she knows. I'm guessing that if she's stray than probably not but her former family might have fixed her.

Take it to the vet. It will have to go in for a complete check-up and shots anyway.
