We were gone for approx. 2 hours. When we returned our dog was completely freaked out. She kept demanding that we go downstairs and then go into each room as if we needed to check them for something. Then she was very sensitive to any noise for the rest of the night. The next morning when I went into my sons room she freaked at me, growled and showed her teeth. As if she was completely terrified. She has NEVER done anything like this. She is not a whining dog nor a aggressive dog. What could have happened in those 2 hours alone?

Someone or something was in your house. If she wanted you to go down stairs and then the rest of the house, you can be sure something was up. So it could have even been a mouse. Does she always sleep in the kids room? She is being protective and I would have to say be very thankful she is. Thats one of the reasons you have her is to be an alarm. Praise her well and never blow off these things as nothing because something happened in your house while you were gone. Congrates on having a guard dog.

If there was no sign of intruders, I don't know what to tell you. She could have possibly heard gunshots, or something loud, or could have heard something/someone outside. Something got her worked up, but just calm her down if she does it again, a dog is the best alarm system, so I'd follow her if she wants to show you something. But after you make sure all is well, sit with her calm her down and watch her to see if she has a behavior that might give you some additional info!

This is happening to an old dog in our family. When the windows are open and wind blows through it freaks him out.
I don't know how old your dog is but if its old then this could be it.
You need to establish yourself as pack leader again. A dog should never show it's teeth to it's owner. I suggest you place it in one room and keep the windows closed. If you have to put on some music (classical) to keep it from hearing noises.

Maybe she heard a noise and thought someone was in the house. Maybe something fell and she thinks someone is downstairs and she is really sensitive. She will calm down soon. Just keep acting nice toward her. She is supposed to bark when someone comes in to alert everyone that someone is at the door. Good Luck!

my dog does that sometimes and no one has broke in or anything she may just not like to be left home by herself was there another type of animal that may have gotten into the house? If she keeps doing this set up a video camera and see what is going on may be something that you can stop also its really funny to watch animals while they are by themselves they do some crazy things

is this an older dog? sudden changes in behavior like this could signal a health problem, loss of hearing, vision or something along those lines. it is very very rare for a normal dog to suddenly become aggressive towards it's owner like you described without some kind of trigger. is it possible that someone did something to her while you were away? is there anyone who could have come in to to your house? sons friends or something like that? if the behaviour continues, i would consult your vet to rule out health problems. if that isn't the case, you might want to look into a behaviorist!

Could have been any number of things could have sppoked her. Be sure to simply tell her she is okay before the situation gets to out of hand.

I could have been like if you were wearing a hood. You could have just freaked her out. Very normal.
