ya, I found him in my back yard when I was a teen , full blooded black German Shepperd. He was a former police dog or something like that. I took him to the vet so they could run his tags but the vet said he was better with us and we should keep him. He was completely trained. I never seen a dog who understood you, wow! Since he was already trained, I tough him hand signs to go along with it.The only thing is he was trained to bite people who smelt like pot too. Some looser boy, who had a chush on me, smelt like pot walked on my property and Jake(my dog) bite him on his feet and butt all the way to the road.
He also protected me. I had to spend the night at my mom friends place. I brought my dog with. Jake, my dog stayed in the room with me. The ladys son's friend was drunk and he got near the bed.My dog attacked him while I was sleeping. I never had such good friend.
I took my dog with me ever where I could, it didn't matter how big he was. I loved that dog

I have two dogs, both are mixed breed rescues. The frist one (Hannah) is a German Shepard/Husky mix, we got her when mom and brother went to play tennis at a local court and a dog had jumped on my mom's chest and looked into her eyes, my mom couldn't forget her so we adopted her.
Then, we moved and Hannah had caught some skunks so we had to get her a new collar at Petsmart, my sister, mom and I walked into the store and saw this Golden Retriver terrier mix dog laying by a Local Humane society booth and we fell in love. We adopted Maddie and took her home.
Hannah was about 2 months when we got her so she didn't have much of a "street life". Maddie was 2 years old and the humane society found her in a graveyard wandering around, and was really malnourished.
I love both my dogs, Maddie is very protective and ADORES my mom, we call Maddie "shadow". (you have to really know where she is, so you don't step on her) Hannah is laid back, but is VERY protective when you need her to be.
They love to play and run, and sleep...but I wouldn't trade them for anything:
They are my companion,
Through my darkest times,
They are there
when no one else will understand.
They always listin,
And I have found,
That having my dogs,
Through the good,
and the bad.
I have learned
that any problem can be easily solved
By that uncontitional love,
That they give Everyday.

My husband and I were separated for about 6 months and during that time HE went and got a puppy. We agreed no more dogs until my older one passed away, but we were split up so he got a pup. Bailey (Lab/Pointer) was free from a friend of a friend. She came from an accidental litter.
I met Junior (Jack/Beagle) when my friend was fostering him. We were considering getting another dog when my older one passed away because Bailey has separation anxiety and we knew we would get her another companion. I saw Junior and instantly liked him. I had no intentions of getting another dog yet, I only went to my friend's house to visit, Maverick was still alive and 2 dogs were enough. I had seen numerous fosters come and go through her house without a second thought. Something made me take this one home though. Got him in February and we lost Maverick in May.
My husband and I are HUGE suckers for dogs. The reason we got them? A house isn't a home without a dog!

I have a chow. Great personality great guard dog and companion. The dog was given to me 12 years ago and he has traveled across the country and has lived in 4 states going on his 5th as we move to WA. He is honestly part of the family and where we go he goes as well. So I guess I'm pretty fullfilled never had an expectation except a very good friend and that he has been!

I have an 11 week old Chihuahua puppy. I wanted a small dog that could curl up with me in the recliner, would play fetch, and be a good companian. She is one of the best dogs I've ever had. She keeps me laughing when she's playing and she gets so excited that she dashes up and down the hall in circles. Then she will curl up beside me while I watch TV or do homework. We start puppy training classes next week and I am excited to have the ability to teach her new tricks and good manners so that we are both happy and healthy.

My Yorkie is the love of my life. He wasn't a planned purchase. Eleven years ago I was going on a trip and went to buy a few things. The store wasn't open but the pet shop next door was.
There he was. I picked him up and he snuggled his little head against my neck. I brought him to the counter and slapped down a credit card. We've been best friends ever since.
No motives just love at first sight.

I have four dogs... two labs and two beagles. I purchased each breed for their specific hunting abilities primarily as we are a family of hunters. We started with labs bacause they are wonderful companion animals that could also go with my husband as retrievers while he hunts waterfowl. The labs are also wonderful home security... they bark at a lot of things and no one knows they'd only knock you over and lick you into submission! They have also made great walking buddies for me, they are terribly loyal and loving, and somewhat low maintanence.
We purchased our beagles because of our family love for rabbit hunting and beagle field trial competition. We rarely hunt rabbits anymore, but take our beagles to "run" rabbits a couple times a week since we still compete them. Ultimately, the beagles were a means for future income. A champion dog allows for some nice stud fees. However, both my beagles are males and not yet champs but still our pride and joy. I love the breed for their never ending energy and eagerness to please. They are great working dogs... they just go go go! They have made nice inside pets because of thier size (13 - 15" tall).
Truly, our primary motivation was companionship when we purchased our first dog, the chocolate lab. And, the beagles are a family affair... we have two, my father-in-law has 12, my brother-in-law has two. So the beagles are a family hobby and we all bond with our pups as we compete them together.

The first thing you should be asking yourself is: 'Why the heck am I buying from a pet store?' If there is a particular breed you have in mind, find the Parent Club. They have breeder referral lists. Please do not buy from a Pet Store. You'll have no idea where the dog came from, but more than likely a Puppy Mill or Back Yard Breeder that couldn't sell their pups in the local newspaper.

Since I can remember my family has always had a pet. They are part of the family. In the beginning I think my mother got it as a guard dog to look out for us while she was at work. Later on down the line they (all the dogs we've had) became family.. I'm a complete dog lover. DOGS RULE!!!

I got my 5 month old Bichonpoo when she was 12 weeks old as a companion. I live alone, have no children and am pretty much a loner. She has in large part become a substitute child. I spoil her but make sure to administer a healthy amount of discipline as well. She has more than fulfilled my desires and I am sure that I fulfill hers. She is a very happy well-adjusted puppy. She loves everyone and all other animals. She is so mellow and a real sweetheart.
