first of all depends on type of dog...smaller dogs get lonely alot easier than larger ones...that is not very long and as long as dog can't get into anything harmful its ok...may take some time to get adjusted to those times alone but as long as you love dog when you are there after being by self he can go crazy over you and sometimes that is very good for one to have time by self then they never get tired of you and stay excited

I am in exactly the same position and I can tell you that your dog will be just fine! We put a dog flap in the back door and our dog can come and go when he pleases. Obviously, your garden must be secure to do this. He has the run of the kitchen and the garden but not the rest of the house! I suspect that most of the time they sleep anyway!. As others have said, a young dog or pup can get a bit destructive if they are left alone too long. I never leave the dog's collar on - just in case it gets caught on anything and I don't leave him alone with rawhide bones - he often gets a bit stuck in his throat . Also, if your neighbour is around - just ask them if they hear the dog barking or crying when you are not there. If no, you have nothing to worry about., RELAX - your dog will be fine!.

In an ideal world, no one would leave their dogs, but everyone has to work & a dog will be fine for 3 hours. If you are getting a puppy, just make sure that you gradually get him used to being left in the first few weeks. Just leave him for a couple of minutes to begin with & slowly build it up to 3-4 hours at a time.

Yes that's fine. It'll sleep most of the time your out anyway. If you feel guilty for leaving it get a treat ball. You put small treats in it and as the dog rolls it round the treats will periodically drop out. Your dog will be more interested by that than the fact that your not there. You can do it gradually by going out for half an hour first and slowly building it up to 3 hrs.Go out several times a day and eventually your dog won't even bother that your going out. Don't fuss your dog either when you go out just say "see you later" and walk out the door.

Wow! I'd say your dog is pretty lucky! our dogs get about 3 to 4 hours of attention a day, because we are so busy, but they have each other and play fine. your dog should be fine, it will give him some of his own "down time" to do what he wants. no doubt when you are home you tell him to sush when he barks, calm down when he's hyper, tell him to sit, stay, lay down typical doggie stuff, and you wouldn't like being bossed around all day. This gives your dog time to be a dog, just as long as he is in the back yard. I'm not meaning all that to sound mean, but I know that's the way it is with most owners even if you don't realize it.

Are you asking with the idea of getting a dog ?..if so 3 to 4 hours is the max a dog should be left,if you applied to a rescue centre they would refuse you if it was any longer. Also I would advise that if you get a puppy take a couple of weeks of work to house train it and get it settled (also leaving it for very short intervals building up to when you go back to work helps. ),with the correct technique that's all it should take.A crate will also help as this makes a dog feel safe(like a den) and stops any destructive or messy behaviour whilst its left, make sure its the correct size for your dog.

Yes, that should be fine. Just be sure to take the dog out for a bathroom break before you leave and a nice walk when you get home!

Yes that would be fine my partner and I both work full time and I have 3 dogs a mature Jrt and two young English Bull Terriers the young ones are both crate trained they stay out with me all morning and then about 5 Min's before I leave for work they wait by their crate to go in. They have water and some bones to keep them busy, they also sleep on a duvet and pillows under so they are nice and comfy (yes their spoilt). I used to feel ever so guilty but there happy enough. Just make sure they go out for the loo before you go and as soon as you get in. Also make sure you dont feed them to close to when you leave them as they may be left for hours needing the loo. I feed mine 1st thing in the morning. I leave for work at 2.30pm that gives them enough time to empty and my partner feeds them at 4-5 when he gets in from work.

Yes it will be fine. My rott was left alone for 8-12 hours at a time when my husband and I worked the same shift. Just make sure you take it out before you leave and again when you get home. Also leave it some toys and make sure anything you don't want torn to pieces is placed out of its reach.

Good question. It depends on the breed of the dog and its own mentality. Do a google search for the breed of your dog and you'll get a more detailed answer from professional site
