Hi there...it may be ear mites or something more serious. Rather than trust the advice of strangers which could cause more harm than help it would be best to only entrust a licenced veterinarian who can safely clean and treat your cat.

It is ear mites. You can get medicine at the vets office or even at a pet store. Make sure you secure her and clean the ear then add the drops. Keep treating everyday and cleaning the ears this will help. They will go away but not without treatment

The black stuff is from earmites. They eat in her ears and poop out that black stuff. Head over to Petco and buy this stuff called Ear Mite Remedy (something like that). You put drops of it in each ear. I suggest that you have someone hold her in a towel and put some drops in each ear, then rub down at the base of the ear to get it in there...you'll hear a nasty wet sound when it gets in there. Then take some cotton balls and flip her ears back and clean out as much as you can. Take some q-tips and clean out the crevaces...but DO NOT stick the q-tip in the ear canal....just clean the outer areas you can see easily. When you are done wipe off the area with a soft wet cloth and get it all as clean as possible, then put a few more drops in each ear and cut her lose. I suggest you do this in the garage or another place you aren't worried about getting too dirty because she will shake her head as soon as you let her down and brown nastiness will fly out of her ears.

Do this treatment once a day until no more black stuff comes out of her ears.

To keep them from coming back, keep your kitty indoors. Any vet will tell you that the best place for your kitty is inside. It keeps them from getting diseases and hurt by other animals or cars.

Good luck!

If it is a lot of black then it is a possibility of ear mites. You can get good quality meds for it at a reputable pet store, but I suggest you take the cat to the vet.

Also, if it is just a little, then its just build up. Its natural, like ear wax. Just be sure not to let it get real bad. You should be able to see inside the ear.

They are ear mites. You can buy some medicine at a pet center or go to the vet for a proper clean-out.

Ear mites is a parasite that "cleaning" won't get rid of. Take her to your vet and have the vet make sure this is the problem. The vet will treat it and give you follow-up for continued treatment. Mites are pretty tough to clear up.

you can even buy it at walmart/kmart etc. And just for future reference, you must be extremely careful messing inside pets ears...they are more sensitive and more likely to become injured this way than humans! Good luck, it's not expensive, and your cat will shake her head and try to scratch out the meds, but it should work. If not, call a local vet!
