Are dachshunds females(girls) more affectionate than males(boys)? Is there any difference in gender. I'm planning on getting a male, however, I've heard sometimes that females make better dogs, they're sweeter. Is this true?

about a 3 months ago I got my turtle a heater for the water. Ive had him fo a year and before I got him the heater I would always take him out for a while so he wouldnt be cold all the time. he liked coming out of the tank then because he would always climb on of my hand when it put it in there and when i'd put him back he would move from my hand. it was so cute. I also had a gold fish that grew up with him in that same tank. They would never bother each other. My turtle is growing but still small he can still fit in the palm of my hand. Lately I've noticed my turtle snapping and chasing at my goldfish. A few weeks ago, when the weather got colder I put my 2 guppies in the tank too so they can be by the heater too again Iv been observing them & my turtle still chases and tries to bit my gold fish but not at the guppies. Since I got him that heater I haven't taken him out or handled as much too. A couple days ago I took my turtle out and he opened his mouth and i think he hissed at me.

I have 3 cat boys , but one of them its just a little devil , very smart but very independent in his actions, when ever he doesnt get food when he wants then he is pissing in the kitchen sink , dont get me wrong that i dont feed them , I DO !! and enough , hard food is there non stop and 3 times a day soft one. So usually he does it in the middle of the night when i sleep or when we are away from home too long. I really tryed everything, i put him with his nouse in there , i spray him with water, and i can see the little bastard understand its wrong and that i hate it but still he does it, because after he does it and i just give him a look about what he just did he runs out and look guilty , or other times he just give that bad look like he did it in purpose.
Any other suggestions ??

My dog was lying in the garage and I heard growling. When he hears, smells, or sees something that puts him on alert he stands at attention just like he should (hes a rottie). But when I check on him hes just lying there. It sounds a lot like how when Lions make that grunting roar to establish their territory to other dogs. But they just lie there. My dog does the same thing, but dogs establish territory by howling and scent marking. I don't understand.

I was told by a lady that cats have a disease (still trying to research this so-called disease), that can eat up a woman's uterus.
I've never, ever heard about this. If you happen to have any information on this, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks in advance!

I have this really old cat named Simon, he's 19 in human years and about 95 in cat years. When ever he stands up, he meows really loudly, or if he wakes up he will, or for no reason at all. He'll just walk around meowing this really painful meow. Is this normal for an old cat? Or is there something wrong with him? Help!

Okay...punish is the first word I thought of..but I really want to know what the best way to deal with it. When my dog jets out of the house he thinks it is a game so he keeps running. The problem is that he has a dark coat and he ran last night clear up the neighborhood (and boy is he fast).

How to I train my dog to understand that it is extremely dangerous for him to run away and not come when called?

I'd like a small dog who doesn't really shed, doesn't need a lot of grooming, is playful, friendly, affectionate, and intelligent. I was thinking about a beagle, chihuahua, pom, shitz tzu, and yorkie.

I had been letting him go outside without a leash and he would stay in the yard, but he wandered outside of his limits, so now I take him out on a leash. The problem is...he wants to play and barks at me to go outside every 15 minutes and once outside he just sniffs and chews grass and is now having accidents in the house. This is driving me nuts! I feed him in the morning and at night and take him out about 15 mins after he eats and drinks. He bites and growls at me until I take him out, then he just plays. Help! Oh, he is a shiht-zu mix and approx. 10 months old.

My younger dog (year old) has just started tearing the house apart. She never did this before while my older dog was alive and now she is going crazy. I don't know if she is just lonely or maybe she lost the authority figure in the house. I have never had to crate her before. Is it too late to start now?

I just adopted a beautiful lab/terrier mix from the humane society. She came in as a lost dog, so they do not have any specific history on her. They estimate that she is about 4 months old. I have named her Hippo :-)
I adopted her with my girlfriend and at the shelter she seemed quite ok around other people. As soon as we brought her into PetSmart, she began to get a little edgy. She barked and pulled her leash when another dog walked by and she would hide behind my legs, or my girlfriend's, when a person approached. Last night introducing her to my brother, she first barked and growled at him when he walked in the room and then when he tried to pet her, she snapped at him. As soon as he left, she ran back and sat at my feet and looked up at me. Hippo doesn't quite know to come when called, and is just learning 'good,' and I was wondering what I can do to help her be more comfortable around people. Another thing is, she will NOT leave my side. Where I go, she goes. Help!
