OK, I am a Chihuahua breeder.
If the breeder has socialized the baby and has played and handled it often--there should only be a 24 to 48 hours adjustment period before you belong to them.
I always include an old blanket and a toy that has the smell of the other puppies on it. I will let all the puppies sleep on the blanket the night before the single puppy is to go to their new home.
It will be comforted by the familial smell of the other puppies--it really helps.
I also include a lengthy list of instructions concerning care of the tiny breeds like a Chihuahua.
If you would like a copy, my email is listed. It is helpful information that I have compiled over several years.

I own 2 of them. If the dog has any favorite toy see if you may have it. You need to give the dog time to know you and trust you. If the dog shys away from you get a small treat and put it in your hand. Hold it out and let the dog come to you. I got one that had been abused for 3 years and did not trust neither myself or my husband. It took me about 8 hours before I could get the dog to come near me. Just let the dog get use to the home he/she is in.

it takes all animals a different amount of time to settle into a new environment. it very stressful and upsetting to them and us to watch it. i see a marked improvement within a month. some are quicker and some longer.
i always think its nice that the animal goes with its favorite toy/blanket. they are usually attached to it and see it as a security thing when feeling unsure. obviously the animal needs lots of time and encouragement.
we need to bond with the pup just as they do to us.
its always to nice to have at least a week initially to spend with the animal in its first few weeks at a new home. to settle get used to us and the house before thinking of leaving it alone.
hope this help.

The Chihuahua will be fine. They bond very quickly with their humans. They just need lots of love and attention.
