I had been letting him go outside without a leash and he would stay in the yard, but he wandered outside of his limits, so now I take him out on a leash. The problem is...he wants to play and barks at me to go outside every 15 minutes and once outside he just sniffs and chews grass and is now having accidents in the house. This is driving me nuts! I feed him in the morning and at night and take him out about 15 mins after he eats and drinks. He bites and growls at me until I take him out, then he just plays. Help! Oh, he is a shiht-zu mix and approx. 10 months old.

try putting him on a lead outside.
it sounds like he equates you with playtime and forgets about pottying whenyou take him out.
so, get a stake and lead at a petstore and put him outside on his lead and then go back inside.
leave him out there long enough until he realizes there isn't anyone to play with and he'll take care of business.

my 11 month lab does that sometimes. if i take him out and put him on his lead and stay with him, then he wants to play. i usually have to go back inside and he will turn around and go potty b/c there isn't anything else to do!

take care:)

This sounds just like my shiht-zu. She did the same thing. We were in and out of the house constantly. The best thing to do is punish when he goes inside and give her a treat when he goes outside. I don't mean hit i just mean tell him he's bad and tap him on the nose. Its hard to do but you will have to if you ever want a clean house.

You will have to out wait him. Take him for a run until he can't stand it anymore, this will work it out, you can't just expect him to go when you want him to. You have to rebuild the trust that's its ok to take a crap with you around, make sure you clean it up when dog is done and he will think that you are interested in the smells, remember a dogs life is all about smells. Good luck

I had a black lab I just got from animal control. When I take her on her leash and she pees outside I tell her good girl. When she does both I give her a treat to reward her. When she wants to play with us outside we tell her no it is potty time. In time with give her treats she learned that if I go potty outside I will get a treat.

first of all he needs to know who the boss is..... play with him inside, then put him in a carrier for a while, (hours) pick him up not allowing him to touch the floor and take him directly outside and put him down. he should pee. repeat this until he gets the idea and the smell of where he is suppose to go. all dogs mark their territory, and he's marking it inside of your house. don't allow it.
