Hi Rose...it's called feline toxoplasmosis gondii:
http://www.fabcats.org/toxoplasmosis.html
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=1&cat=1359&articleid=770
It's found in their feces and can be harmful to an unborn fetal, however it won't eat up a woman's uterus. Raw meat also can give people toxoplasmosis as well. Pregant woman can have cats, however it's best to wear gloves and a mask or ask a spouse to clean the litter box to minimize the risk of getting the disease.

That's a load of nonsense. If there was even a hint that such an outrageous claim was true, you'd be certain it will be on "Nancy Grace" and on the news. Forget it.
The lady may be mixing up her story with the warning to PREGNANT women not to handle cat feces becuase cat feces can carry a bacteria that is NOT good to pregnant women. You'll see the warning on cat litter labels. Then look it up on the internet.

I've had cats all my life & still have a uterus. LOL
OK, they do potentially carry toxoplasmosis which can be fatal to an unborn child. But I've never heard of the other. I believe that is a myth.

no such thing! I am a licensed vet tech. This must be like the litterbox myth. Pregnant women and children CAN change the litterbox unless they eat the poop, there is no risk. If you want to be extra cautious go ahead and wear gloves, but trust me, you're fine.

It is an old wives tale that cats can do harm to the baby when a woman is pregnant.
It is just that, a story.
