We recently bought a black lab pup and already had 2 cats, one 6 years old and one 1 year old. The 6 year old is taking to the pup nicely and seems to want to mother her but the 1 year old is having major trouble! I don't understand this at all because he was born into a house with dogs, one that slept with them while Momma Cat was out, and has been around my Mom's dog several times since we got him with no problems. But suddenly he is not liking this pup, hissing and running from her. He (the cat) weighs 21 lbs. (yes he's healthy, just a VERY big cat and not all fat, very tall and long) and the pup only weighs 2.5 lbs so it cannot be a size thing. What can I do to make this transition easier on my cat? He is my heart (I delivered him after he got stuck coming out breach from his momma and had to cut his sack off and get him breathing) and I hate that he is now staying hidden and I never get to see him. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

My bird Che Che, gets on the top of her cage and lays flat. She even lays her head down. I've allways had birds, but never seen one do this. It's cute.

He sheds quite a bit (as usual), and if i dont' vacuum every other day it collects in the corners (hardwood floors, so the hair all gathers in corners & under things). Out of nowhere today he ran around my bedroom and was eating all these clumps of hair!! I made him stop & then when I wasn't looking he did it again!. WTF?!?!?!?!

He loves to sleep right under my chin everynight and he likes to suck on my neck and ears . I thought he would grow out of it . But it doesn't seem like he will . He was taken away from his mother when it was time . Same as his brothers . I asked my boyfriend if his kitten does it to , but he said no. And my boyfriend kitten is from the same litter. Is it just my kitten the way he is .

they are really good dogs (bro. & sis.), but have spent a lot of time out side, and not really house broken. they are so cute and cuddly, eager to please, what is the best way to go about disciplining them, and still gain their trust. Also, they were sent home w/ us with Iams puppy food, but they don't seem to really like it.

My rat terrier pup "pete" has now learned to urinate on the doors/furniture seems like anywhere he can raise his leg. When he urinates outside he squats, but will come in the house and lift his leg and urinate in the house. What is that?

For the last 2 days, he will not eat. He is usually a pig about his food. He won't even eat treats. He just lies around and walks slowly. Today, he drank water and vomited it both times he had some. Any ideas what this could be?

I'm trying to figure out what to dress my big fat dachshund up like for Halloween. I don't want to make her a hot dog because every weenie dog is a hot dog at least once.
She enjoys dressing up, so I don't want any comments about cruelty. If she didn't like it, I wouldn't do it to her.

I have a four month old miniature poodle and I'm trying to housetrain him. We take him out at all the recommended times, and as far as not going in the house he's doing pretty well. But it takes him forever to go when we're outside! He sniffs everything, wanders around, gets distracted when he hears something, and is usually more interested in play than potty. Even in the morning when he's been crated all night, he'll pee relatively quickly, but it takes about ten minutes for him to decide to poop. We've tried not taking him as often, thinking maybe he'd need to go more when we did take him, and we've tried coming back inside and crating him when he doesn't go, then trying again in a bit. Is there anything we can do to speed up the process once we get outside?

I've got a spirited 3 year old terrier(female) She will be friends and play with other dogs ***After they pass her test***. When she meets a new dog she does a pretty realistic "Fake attack" growl ,snarl ,snap but no contact. If the other dog is submissive or so confident as to 'Not fight" they can be friends. Trouble is 1/2 or more are ready to fight. I suspect part of her problem may stem from insecurity due to a crippled leg (New dogs do notice) Any suggestions on improving her manners would be appriciated.

It has finally happened a brindle pug in the ring in Canada!
Just curious to know since most of the show people on this site are American, how people feel about a brindle pug being shown in the ring last weekend in Canada and awarded a 1st place ribbon in it's class?????

This has caused a huge upset in the pug community and I have been told that the AKC is having an emergency meeting to look at revisitng the wording of the standard. My understanding is that a brindle pug in not allowed in the ring in America period !
Is this correct???

In Canada our National club is still trying to figure out what they are going to do about this, but aparently letters will be sent out to all the judges to educate them about the Canadian breed standard which does not disqualify brindle as a color.

The brindles came from a breeder in the USA and are AKC and CKC registered I saw the papers with my own eyes (the owner also said that the dogs were DNA tested.)
She has 2 brinde pugs entered in the Lower Mainland Dog Fancier, show at the end of the month, the biggest dog show in Canada. If they are not excused from the ring there is a chance, even if it is a slim chance, that one (or both) could get a Canadian Championship as there are 3 specialties at that show
.
I'd like to hear from people about there thought on this.

I have had my 14 wk old 3lb maltese for a week now. My maine coon is about 12 lbs & 8 months old. We got him at the Humane Society so Im sure he isnt a full breed maine coon & he is neutered. Anyways, we have tried & tried for hours to get them used to eachother. The puppy isnt scared of him & just wants to play of course. The cat pounces on him & attacks him. I let them do there thing until my puppy yelps then I pull him off the puppy. Sometimes it takes a while to even pull him off he is so ruff. Lastnight he turned around & attacked me. I know its kinda like interfearing but the puppy doesnt stand a chance. I feel really bad becuase I have to keep them seperated when Im not home or sleeping, & the cat used to sleep under the bed. Now I have to close my doors. I have a billion toys for him & even play with him as soon as i get home b4 I even go check on the pup. What else can I do? I cant keep living like this.. I feel so bad for the both of them :( Will he ever just like him?

I think that animal shelters are full because of humans irresponsiblity. People abuse animals who then in turn have behavioral issues. Others starve and neglect animals, sometimes to death. Selfishness is a big part of overpopulation in animal shelters. Poeple buy or adopt cute animals and when these cute animals make mistakes they abandon them or take them to a shelter. Yeah, I do think that it is the human race fault that animalks shelters are full and healthy, fixable animals are dying because of euthanasia. What do you think? I am doing research so speak or forever hold your peace!! LOL
