I don't know what kind of cat that is (I guess it is spelled wrong) but 12 lbs is not an abnormal weight for an adult cat. The higher end of normal for most cats maybe, but certainly not alarming. A lot depends on the breed. Some big breeds, like Maine Coons, are normal at a lot more than that!
Hopefully you're taking your cat to the vet every year for a checkup. That's very important. Your vet will keep a record of the cat's weight, let you know if it's anything to be concerned about, and if it has changed a lot--which can indicate illness.
Otherwise, as long as you're giving her a high-quality food and playing with her a lot to give her exercise, she sounds fine. The people who are talking about their 20lb plus cat are the ones who should be concerned. For some reason people think obese cats are "cute," but it's a very serious health issue, and often painful for the animal.

It's normal as long as the cat is larger framed. Does she LOOK fat? If not, she's not. I know someone said "chill, it's only two pounds", but two pounds on a cat is like 20 pounds to us.
A general guideline is that if you can't easily feel the ribs with light pressure on the sides, the cat is probably a bit overweight.
I have a male who weighs in at a healthy 13lbs.

12 pounds doesn't seem that big. I good test is to grab their belly while they are standing on all fours. If there is a significant pocket of fat there, then you might want to try to get her to exercise more. Mine are 7, 13 and 24. The smaller two are tabbies and the big one is a big black fluffy cat. His mother was half white, half tabby. We don't know what his father was.

I don't have a cat that weighs less than 15 lbs. They are all large framed cats and one of them is a piggie - he weighs in at 25 lbs. They are all different, just like people.

If she looks lean with a slight bulge of skin right in front of her back legs, she's fine. If her stomach is sticking out and she's looking like a barrel with legs, or if her belly covers her back feet completely when she sits down (not including fur)... she needs a diet. Fat cats are just as bad off as fat people. It's not a good thing for them, and it can be fixed and should be.
Good luck!

my vet told me that a heathly cat should be slim - no belly hanging out to the sides or down to the ground. you should be able to feel her ribs easily. a good way to maintain a good weight is to regulate her feeding - don't keep her bowl filled with food all the time and no automatic feeders. 12 pounds is normal if she is a medium built cat. hope this helps!!

Description
The Birman is an average size cat (males generally ranging from 8 to 12 pounds, females a little smaller). A Birman has a medium length coat that has a consistency which requires very little grooming. Birman cats are pointed cats (have darker colors on their faces, ears, paws and tail) with white paws. The eyes of a Birman are always blue.
