For the last 2 days, he will not eat. He is usually a pig about his food. He won't even eat treats. He just lies around and walks slowly. Today, he drank water and vomited it both times he had some. Any ideas what this could be?

Hi it could be a whole host of problems all of what should be seen by a vet...you really need to take him to a vet as soon as you can before he loses body weight which will make it harder for him to fight off whatever it is that he's got...Seek professional help...Regards Jake

I agree with sharon d, get him to another vet as soon as possible. You would think they would want to keep him there if he is failing and put an IV on him so he gets enough fluids and nutrition. There must be other test they can do! Try to find a Board Certified Veterinarian that has a good reputation. That's what I ended up doing after the first vet (fresh out of medical school) made a wrong diagnosis on my dog. When I took my dog to an experienced older Board Certified Vet, he found my dog had a very rare disease with one simple test. My dog died but at least I knew what it was and knew I did everything I could for him. Good luck with your dog!

Get the dog to the vet right away! It could be any number of terminal illnesses or it could be food poisoning from the dog food. That has been all too common in the past few years.

Maybe it's not too bad, but go while the dog has a chance. He's probably dehydrated and that makes him even weaker than not eating.

There are a number of things this could be caused from. My best advice for you is to get him to the vet as soon as possible. Take away his water, because he is going to continue to throw it up and that is very hard on the body. There is no real way to tell you what it is without doing tests on him. He could have some internal problems going on. He could have an obstruction from eating something he shouldnt of. He could just have a virus. Im sorry I couldnt help you more, but you really need to have a vet see him.

You should get him to ur vet. I would be very concerned if he seems depressed too. It is not likely parvo virus since mainly puppies get this. It is not likely a bloat or GDV as he would have passed away by now. I would be concerned about an obstruction in his intestines or pancreatitis. Either case needs medical attention. He may need surgery if he is obstructed. Additonal bloodwork, x-rays and maybe ultrasound may be needed to find out the cause.

Remember that tomorrow is Friday, so he needs to see the vet before the weekend..
Yes, he may have pancreatitis, or any number of serious maladies, but only a vet can give you the proper diagnoses and treatment. I doubt that he will get better on his own.

i agree with everyone else---given your dogs age---this could be a number of things---none of them any good. take him to the vet as soon as you can. if there is an emergency vet clinic in your area take him there. this could be something as serious as an intestinal blockage or another condition where the stomach gets twisted around inside the dog. he could've eaten something that didn't agree with him---sometimes dogs will eat inanimate objects because they're bored. if they don't pass these objects out the back end---they can accumulate in the stomach and cause vomiting.

take your dog to the vet as quick as you can! please post a note to your question letting us know how he is!

Please take him to a vet asap! Sounds like he could have an obstruction in his bowels or pancreatitis. Or even kidney failure. I don't mean to scare you but this could be serious.

I had a dog that acted that way when he was in kidney failure 3 years ago and not long ago I had a dog that got ahold of something he shouldn't have and had it nearly get lodged in his intenstines (luckily he passed it just fine!).

Think of dogs like little kids - if they are vomiting for more than one day, take them in. It's worth the peace of mind. Your sweet Shepherd will be in my prayers!

Sometimes hookworm causes the loss of appetite. Maybe a local vet will be able to diagnose correctly? If you find the answer, perhaps put it in the comments section of the Question for us.

Wow, that's not good at all... I'm no vet but i have two dogs myself and that's usually a sign of bad gag reflex. You should see a vet immediately because these vomiting and picky eating habits are a signal saying, "SOMETHING WRONG!!!"
