I live in Knysna which is relatively safe I got the dog purely for a companion, but as he has gotten older he is more restless and diff for me to handle, I also think he gets lonely in the day when I go to work... I do not want to upset his world at the mo, so not to sure if a little friend would be a good idea...

My Boxer is 1yrs old and has a problem holding his pee! I always let him out at night before we go to sleep, but some nights he lets it go in his sleep.. I don't know what else to do. I've even tried not to give him water after a certain time. Does anyone else have any advice?

Just recently, China has ordered the 2nd mass slaughter of dogs in the country, claiming to curb rabies outbreak. Is this inhumane?

I have a VERY SMALL little male Yorkshire Terrier and I have a female Yorkshire Terrier that is a tad bit larger than my male Yorkie. The male Yorkie's hair feels like a ruff coat on his back but the hair around his head and face is smooth, I tell everyone he has a ruff coat, but my female Yorkshire Terrier has a VERY smooth and soft coat. My question is when I let these two Yorkie's of mine breed with one another then WHAT will there puppies hair type be a ruff coat or a smooth coat? All answers will be appreciated. THANKS A BUNCH and have a nice day!!!

I'm on a against the going to the vet tirade today for some reason but anyways, I was wondering if people think kittens are so fragile that going to the vet is a necessity for survival. My thoughts are that although a lot of kittens in the "wild" (farms and city streets) die, this is mostly due to being eaten. Cats have been around for a while, they can survive a lot of things, you don't need to take them to the vet for everything. Tapeworm can be handled with over the counter meds. Fleas can be handled with advantage. Most symptoms can be diagnosed to a good degree just with some research on Yahoo Answers. It might just be me, I don't like human doctors much either. But do you really need to take the cat or kitten to the vet for EVERY little thing?

I'm reading some of the answers and I have to say, it seems to me most pet owners are damn rich. I'm myself do ok but I can't afford to take my cat to the vet for every little thing. Anyways some of the answer I hear range from:

over the counter meds don't work, take her to vet
throw your furniture out if you have a flea infestation
and of course the take her to the vet for every little thing

Are you all rich or do you just like spending a lot of money on your pets?

Could we work our schedule to fit the puppies eating/potty schedule? Do we absolutely need to get a dog walker? What are our options? I am thinking of having my wife part time work so she can be at home with him more.

We got a full blooded australian shepherd from the pound, and he was abused by his previous owners. Every little thing will make him scared and pee a little bit. Any Advice?

I discovered a fly had laid eggs in my ferret's cage last night, and spent over an hour cleaning out all of the maggots. (they werent there that morning when I cleaned the ferret's litter box!) could the maggots have hurt the ferrets before I found them? The ferrets are acting normally now. Also, what kind of insecticide can I use to kill the flys that wont hurt my ferrets?

across from my house, there is a privet park. i take my dog there to play fetch. latley i've ben seeing dead anamals, mostly wild birds. only the body of the bird is there but the head gone. what might be killing these animals? and one time i saw a headless rat and one that was just dead. yesterday i saw a whole bunch of feathers everywhere but no trace of blood or the body of the animal. is this thing killing for fun? i've heard that there are coyotes and hawks in my neighborhood. and i live in seattle!!

With a 77% increase in animal cruelty cases in the last year, in the UK, should there be harsher laws or prosecutions for those who abuse animals?
As pet owner myself I say yes, but I feel if there is no justice with abuse against humans what chance do animals have.

We get them to stop, but once one moves, the other is on him like white on rice. I can't keep yelling at them anymore, it's driving me crazy and it isn't getting me anywhere!! And yes, they are both males and are both fixed.
