Why not suggest sheltering one from an over-crowded shelter for a time as a trial period.

Perhaps you can volunteer at your local rescue shelter and show her that you are willing, able and ready to take on the responsibility of a new puppy. Also, maybe you could start your own dog walking business around your neighborhood. Not only would it show her that you are responsible and are willing to work to earn money, but that you are capable to handling a puppy on your own. I would read and research as much as I could about pet care and all the breeds and I would see if a local vet was interested in having you volunteer to assist him/her once or twice a week. This would provide you will a great learning environment to ask lots of questions about dogs and pets in general. Take care and good luck.

Your mother may have serious reasons not to get a dog, or it may be a simple as she knows she'll get stuck with all the care. How about dog sitting or dog walking as a part time job and show your mom you can be responsible. Or volunteer at the shelter -- same reason.
#1 ask her why she won't agree to a dog. then you'll have to find a logical way to convince her otherwise. good luck

what is the reason for not wanting to get a dog?
could it be that it would raise the rent?
could it be that she doesnt think that you would take care of it after the new wears off?
could it be that she would be the one taking care of it while you are at school?

there are a few good reasons for not letting a kid have a pet that does take a lot of responcibility.
do you have the finances to buy the dog food? do you have the time to spend with the dog?

Its best not bring a dog into a home that someone there does not want them. Ask her if she had a dog while growing up and did she love that dog. You would like the opportunity to love a dog like she may have.

First ask yourself "Am I really ready for a full time commitment that a dog takes?" They are not toys and can't be tossed away when you are bored with them. They involve a life time (theirs) commitment and are huge responsibility.
