I'm reading some of the answers and I have to say, it seems to me most pet owners are damn rich. I'm myself do ok but I can't afford to take my cat to the vet for every little thing. Anyways some of the answer I hear range from:

over the counter meds don't work, take her to vet
throw your furniture out if you have a flea infestation
and of course the take her to the vet for every little thing

Are you all rich or do you just like spending a lot of money on your pets?

Owning a pet takes on a big responsibility. Some of the stuff is a little far fetched like throwing out furniture. BUT, over the counter crap is what it is, c-r-a-p! And when your pet needs something specific, you need it to be from a vet, that way you know its safe. Its a life, and you shouldnt want to play with it!

The biggest thing in my book is making sure you have your pets spayed & neutered, the number of over population due to the ignorance of people is outrageous!

I have 4 indoor cats, all very well taken care of, all been spayed & neutered, up to date on shots, and yes, they even get "Advantage once a month during flea season!!!They are very healthy & loving, and I plan on having them for a very long time!

No just not very smart lol. It does cost money to take care of them but for the basics you don't need to be rich. Some people just go over bored with their pets and spoil them like they are children. I mean you just do not give animal over the counter meds thats dumb that will kill them of course they need a vet the only place they get the proper meds made for animals. As far as the throw out the furniture flees can be tuff to get rid of(but proper treatment will work). Havent you noticed alot of answers are just plain sarcasm. Some people ask dumb questions and get dumb answers lol.

No I'm not rich I put money away monthly as a emergency fund for my cats. that way I can take them when they need to go. OTC meds are usually not effective and some of it mainly hartz and other flea products deadly!
Pets are part of my family if I could not provide for them good food and vet care as needed I wouldn't have cats. There pets they sure can't pay and take themselves to a vet when sick!

How can you generalize pet owners of being rich?! That sounds like sterotyping and why should all of them be rich?! We pet owners don't have to be rich to spend whatever money we have so to keep our dear pets healthy and live a long life possible. That is a bit offensive that I hope you know because I am not rich or poor, but whatever I have that I use it to keep my pet healthy because I care very much about him, as he does to me.

We have a cat and a snake, and a couple of fish, and I am far from being rich! I have to say that some of the answers that you have read are a bit unbelievable, I love my animals but I would not spend a fortune on them like it seems some people are willing to do.

I'm not rich, but I did take on an obligation to take the best care of my pets that I can. That includes giving them routine veterinary care and proper care with injuries and illness that present in between times. It includes making sure that they are spayed and neutered, and that they are kept as strictly indoor cats at all times. If that means I have to sacrifice at times to keep my commitment to them, then that is what I do.

I don't have pets, but a lot of people I know do. Many of them aren't what you would call "rich", but they care so much about their pets that they'll spend whatever they have to on them. It's like their family--no cost is too high to ensure a long, happy and healthy life.

I had the same responces when I had a question, and I'm not rich either. My husband makes plenty of money, but refuses to spend it on animals that are free to begin with. Plus, when I did convince him to let me take my cat to the vet a few years ago, we had a huge bill and a dead cat to show for it. No thanks.

When I used to have a dog I would take it to the vet for every litle thing. We just don't want anything to happen to our pets...They are just like people and they need love a nd CARE.
