If one of you could come home from lunch to let the dog out, that would be helpful. The rest of the day, he should be kept in a dog crate so that he doesn't hurt himself or destroy the house. He's also less likely to have an accident in the crate. I have a 9 month old shitzu and they're harder to train because their bladders are so little they can't hold it as long. Try to give the dog a walk before you go to work in the morning so that he's tired out and calmer during the day while you are both gone.

we crate trained our daschound mix puppy. i am also gone to work all day, 9-5, i would just take him out right before i leave in the mornings, go home on lunch break and let him out again, then get home asap in the evenings to let him out. . i worked pretty good, he didn't have too many accidents, 1 every few days, for about a month, then as he got older he got used to this schedule and now it works out great

This could be hard.
Doggie daycare is something to look into, but be sure its a safe one.
Shih Tzu's are a lap-dog so they dont learn very fast, have patience.
Thats really only what I can think of- check with neighbors that might be home.
Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!

I have trained all my dogs by putting them in a kennel at home. Take him out before you go to work and when you get home. As his bladder grows he will learn to hold it. Also consider putting in a dog door going to a fenced area. Put in through every time you want him to potty and he will learn how to go outside on his own

what to do is find those potty training sheets, they smell like grass, then put in on the bottom of ur kennal. then put ur dog in. its not inhumane, i read it in a book, its like there own special thing

Maybe you should have considered this before buying the dog, they're just like a child, need attention & looking after!

puppies are like babies--when they gotta go, they GO!
If I say "crate train", everyone will jump all over me.
So, look up "housebreaking" and "puppy" and "crate" online, and see what you think!
