SICK!!!!!!! Most definitely its inhumane to beat an animal to death, whos to say they all have rabies? You know they aren't spending money to test them. I've heard comments like "what if it was your family member who got rabies?" Well I would make sure that dog was put down humanely, knowing that the dog is suffering anyways. I've also heard "Well who is more important a human or an animal", I say Human or animal they are both important and I don't believe a humans life is more important than an animals life. Like Wylands quote says "We Honor Nature, We Honor Ourselves".
Also the only way these humans are getting the rabies is if the animal is biting them, why are they touching these homeless dogs that have rabies in the first place?

First Of All~nobodies cryin' weeping, etc... so shut it. People(?) that kill animals by beating them to death are f*in' sick. If you can beat any living thing to death-you are S- i -c- k ,period. How can you guy's agree it's ok, or "Not that bad"? There is something seriously wrong with you, maybe your missing a 'HUMANE' gene or something(?) Oh, and Yes I'm a vegetarian so that other crap doesn't wash with me either. Yes, lot's of animals are put to sleep in this country, however, it is done HUMANELY. What part of humane don't you people get? T_minus_when...don't EVER stop bringing cruelty to the publics attention, if we don't who will? They have No Rights and No Voice so they are easy targets for merciless idiots who either don't care or get there rocks off being bullies towards that which is helpless. Tell me where I get the Rabies Vaccine at,( since you seem to know, by the way...)and yes, I am going to do anything I can, as are my family, friends, and coleagues, etc... because we are good , compassionate people who have integrity and WE CARE. ..I hope you get over your selfish indignation some day and realize that animals feel pain, sadness , grief, (oh,why bother with you, if you don't get, you don't get..) and that's a shame.

Yes, it is inhumane. It is also inhumane to allow thousands of people and many more dogs to die from rabies. 2651 people in China died of rabies in 2004. Many more dogs must have died. A major rabies outbreak could be harmful to humans and devastating to animals (not just dogs, either). How many birds have been killed to stop bird flu? The Chinese government doesn't have tons of money to quarantine and test all the dogs.
A lot of people are complaining, but I haven't heard of anyone shipping rabies vaccines to China.

No, it is absolutely NOT RIGHT. Just because 3 people died from the rabies, let's go out and club every dog we see to a pulp....even ones who are being walked by their owners!!! That is seriously sick.
I've posted 3 questions about this very issue and all I get is people criticizing me for "caring about animals more than humans". Whatever. There are organizations for HUMAN rights and there are ones for animals. ...and I happen to be more involved in the plight of the animals.

It's disgusting and sick. Beating dogs to death can never be considered humane. The country has a dog over-population problem, combined with poverty and ignorance so people don't have their dogs immunized. Since the dogs are obviously not the only animals who carry rabies, what else are they going to beat to death?

FANTASTIC, CHETCO!
"Right" is often a relative judgement...
Perhaps some things to consider in this story are
1. issues surrounding the number of dogs which are homeless/running at large;
2. although you and i may not agree with it, dog is a source of protein for many people in China - this has led to very large numbers of animals kept for slaughter (think about the number of cattle we raise here in North America, for example).
3. the Chinese state that there is a very large rabies outbreak - for whatever reason, these dogs are diseased and suffering - likely with little to no attention from a vet. is it more humane to euthanize them or to allow them to suffer, die and infect other animals which have very little hope of treatment?
While you and I might initially shudder to imagine all of these animals being slaughtered, these issues (and many more) are worthy of consideration before we rush to judgement.
Remember, its not very often that we get all the facts. And even if we do, terms such as "right"/"wrong", "good/bad" are often relative and circumstantial.
While I happen to think that my dog friends are part of my family, I have to understand that not everyone thinks like me.
Imagine yourself in parts of India, for example - where cattle are considered sacred and roam about the streets in much the same fashion as a cat in your local neighbourhood. Imagine the disgust and scorn some may feel to know that we keep them in fields and barns, shoot them full of hormones and send them off to their deaths in order that we might eat hamburgers....
Although its certainly shocking - images of dead and dying animals all over the place - consider also the role of the media in sensationalizing this event... what's in it for them?
I won't pretend to say that I could stomach watching the whole-sale slaughter of animals (regardless of whether they are dogs or cattle) for few people can head down to their local abatoir and observe cattle being shot in the head; I won't pretend that the whole sale slaughter of dogs in China doesn't cause me a bit of unease -
but think about the big picture, not just what CNN or Fox (or anyone!) for that matter is telling you. Find out the facts, don't fall prey to the hype, and decide for yourself!
Good luck.
One more thing - don't forget Chetco's admonishment - many millions of companion animals die every year in North America simply because no one wants them any more...
Change truly does begin at home.

Yes, it's horrible, especially when there are ways to prevent it.
But then, there are 5-6 million cats and dogs killed in shelters in the US every year, so why isn't CNN doing a story on that? Are we really any better?
