We recently bought a house and the carpet is really dirty. I have tried shampooing it but it hasnt made a big difference. We are on a tight budget and cant afford to buy carpet right now and area rugs are more expensive than carpet (for our room size). Any ideas on how to clean it or what to use?

My husband likes a hard mattress, and I really prefer something cushier. We had a memory foam topper that I loved but it was too soft for his back. We can't afford a sleep number bed at this time- any suggestions to cushion one side of the bed?

I have a frightening thing happening. While I was away this weekend, a friend looked after my house, cats, dog+quail for me.My back garden is fairly secure, but front garden is open to all and sundry - no way of making that any more secure.I have badgers in my garden (I live on the edge of a town) up to 5 of them sometimes.

While I was away my friend told me he was awakened by the badgers banging on the walls (they can access 2 walls) of my bungalow. Then one of the badgers in the front garden hurled itself through the air and shouldered my front window with a very big resounding noise (the window is above waist level and is big).

I didnt really believe him, I thought he may have been half asleep.

Well I was wide awake last night - I hadnt even gone to bed - badgers were in my front garden and one of them propelled himself through the air and shouldered my window. The window reverbrated, I thought it was going to break. Then it did it again and again.

Why?
What can I do?

We would be having a full service move (ie. packing, moving, etc.) It would be nice if one of us could fly in Friday night...pack up, and then leave on Sunday. But it would depend on what days moving companies work. My husband swears they work only on weekdays.

Thanks for the help!

Some limbs were cut on my Austrian Pine to allow for a better view and over time the tree has shrunk considerably. What would cause this? Is it the cutting of the limbs or something else?

I am just learning to use my sewing machine which is a standard Singer sewing machine. The stitches on top of the fabric are perfect, but the stitches on the underside are horrible, just a tangled mess. What adjustments to I need to make?

My family and I seem to have inherited a rabbit from somewhere nearby, and now that it's spring it has started to nibble away at the tulips as they come up. Any suggestions on how to keep it away from the garden, or perhaps trap it somehow?

I just bought a new bed frame and my existing boxspring and mattress looks incomplete on it, as the headboard is at least 6' tall.
What sort of things can I add to the bed to make the mattress higher?
I personally am a fan of beds you have to jump up on to reach, so the higher, the better.

Thanks

I am renting a fully furnished house which the owners live in for 6 months out of the year and then rent out for the other 6 months. the cabinets are full of food and wine and stuff. They never said not to touch it, so is it part of the rental or off limits? (i already drank one bottle of wine, so should i replace it)?

We're looking at beds for our kids and wondering whats better for their back, either a bed with a box spring, or one with just a wood base (finding captains beds, bunk beds, and some low beds, just have a wood platform for under the mattress) and worried if this isnt good for them.
