Personally I would be looking at things on the tall buildings level close up - but then I am weird!

Because they are on vacation and are having a good time, it is something different to do and it's only a quarter and you can look at the outskirts of the town or some other place that has caught your attention. It's just all in fun.

cause they are tourists and do weird things, including wasting their money on telescopes

Why do you write "tourists"? Do you know for a fact they are tourists? They could be your in-laws.
