the chimney on my house was struck by lightning, the charge traveled down the chimney and caused the tile around the fireplace to explode. a few electronic devices in the house as well as the air conditioning unit and the phone lines were damaged. if my home was properly grounded, would it have prevented the damage from the lightning strike.

Our home waranty company said they will not install a new water heater unless one of THEIR vendors brings it up to code, which I think is a bunch of bull...Their plumber quoted us $530 JUST TO BRING IT UP TO CODE.....how difficult is it to bring it up to code? They say it needs a drain system installed.

Couldn't they just leave it as one slab. I mean why do they put the cracks in there, shouldn't it be just like the streets and be one constant slab.

What do I use to add texture to my walls. I am living in a very old house (temp... for about 3 years while building a new one) and the walls look horrible. The house was not made to look pretty that is for sure. You can see every seem of each piece of drywall plus its just so old there are imperfections everywhere. Some of the rooms I think I can just use a painting technique to make it look textured but a couple of the rooms I really need to add something on top of the drywall before painting. Any Ideas on what I would use?

I have oil based paint on my bathroom baseboards & trim. I accidently used water based to repaint. I didn't realize that it was oil based until it started peeling off. Is there an "easy" way to fix it?

My washing machine was installed about six months ago (a Zanussi, in case that's important). Recently, it's started discharging water into the waste pipe faster than the waste pipe can drain it. I have (I think) a p bend between the vertical waste pipe and the sloping horizontal one that takes the water away. Has anyone else had this problem? I've taken the three pipes apart and checked for blockage but no joy. Help!

The repair shop wants to charge me $100 because they claim I put the wrong type of oil in my lawn mower. The mower would not start before I added a little oil, so I don't know if this will fix the problem anyway. I don't think it was the wrong type, but am not 100% sure. The mower is under warranty another year.

Any good way to get depressions out of a rug? I think I'll try ironing them out but if anyone knows of any other means, please let me know. I recently have some old furniture removed from a carpeted room, which left deep depressions in the carpet.
