My washing machine was installed about six months ago (a Zanussi, in case that's important). Recently, it's started discharging water into the waste pipe faster than the waste pipe can drain it. I have (I think) a p bend between the vertical waste pipe and the sloping horizontal one that takes the water away. Has anyone else had this problem? I've taken the three pipes apart and checked for blockage but no joy. Help!

If the waste pipe was existing and you installed a new washer, the discharge pipe may not be large enough. New codes for washer drains is 2" since the new machines have more powerful pumps. Old drains were 1-1/2".

Ensure your horizontal pipe is at least 24", any shorter it can fill and overflow before the waste water has a chance to drain away...If you have reason to believe pipework is getting blocked, pore a full kettle of boiling water down the horizontal pipe, that helps break up any sludge build up

This may seem crazy but, make sure the hose is far enough into the drain pipe. When water kicks on can cause hose to come out little at a time and cause to overflow. Been here done that.

It sounds as though the drop on the waste pipe is not steep enough, you say it slops, so the drop may not be severe enough for the washing machine, as you had the pipes apart, they obviously aren't blocked, try replacing the pipes and putting a steeper drop on the outlet.

two ideas, is the filter blocked in the washing macine, which is increaing the jetting effect..or is the pipe driving out of the waste a little bit each time ...flippin nuisance whatever

Those people putting that house in the empty lot, more than likely, hit a drain from your house, while they were digging and busted it and I'm sure that they just filled in right over it without given it second thought or never even knew that they damaged anything.

Mine did the same thing and it was the main that was running slow. Washer line was the second from last inlet to go into the main.
