Is it against code in Texas to have your electric panel inside a bedroom closet in Texas? We are told it has been "grandfathered", but it looks new. Anyone know the electric codes in Texas?

Not sure if this helps, but you can always call an electrical contractor and tell them your story.

Logically, the person who said it was "grandfathered" could probably answer this question. Further, just because something is "grandfathered" doesn't mean that it is old. If the code changed just last year, and your apartment is only 2 years old, your place can look fairly new and still be "grandfathered" in.

I own 11 house in the Dallas area. All of them have the panels in the closet. Don't know what the new code may be.

If it is existing it is legal but if it is new construction it is a code violation.
Check out the National Electrical Code Article 110.26. It refers to working clearances on electrical items that require servicing or inspection.

It is an NFPA 70 (NEC) code violation to have circuit breakers installed in the vicinity of easily ignitable materials (clothes).
