ndtweedy, I needed to have a pea trap put under the shower and one under the washer. The idiot that built this house didn't install these things. The plumber said most pipes under the house were laying on the ground and basically my washer had been draining on the ground. So, he installed 2 pea traps, bought one long pipe, cut it and connected pipes under house and put some hangers up. He was here for 4.5 hours and charged me $1200.00. I called and complained and they took off $350.00. I still feel ripped off, but at least it's better than nothing. Thanks for answering.

Depends on your location. Your cheapest route is to find a plumber that charges by the hour, but will give you an estimate as to how long your repair will take.

Here in Eastern Washington, most companies are around $120 for the first hour and around $85 for each subsequent hour. Please be critical of anyone that is even close to $35/hour.

If you let me know what your issue is, I can tell you how long I think it might take to repair.

I live in VA some charge $75 to $200 per hour I would call a plumber that there phone book ad has psi in it they will come out for a set fee and look at it and tell you the cost before they start this way you know upfront.

Most are by the hour. Many charge you a base fee just for showing up at your house. So you will probably be out $150 for the first hour. After that it just depends on how much time it takes and how nasty the job is.

plumbers can be paid by either, its the plumbers discretion. as far as a fair price, depends on if it is new construction or residential, new construction is cheaper cause its easy and they don't have to mess with dirty pipes. if there is concrete that the plumber has to go through it is more expensive, a busted pipe under a sink wont cost much.

Both, but if you decide to have a plumber come in, have the estimate a price for you, and shop aroound a bit for a lower price and somebody who has been doing it awhile. Make sure theperson is qualified when having one do any type of work for you.

If you should happen to see a butt crack hangin out, ask for a discount.``

its better to have them quote ta firm fixed price....rather than by the hour...that way --you know how much its going to cost...if you get an honest plumber that is---once had a guy quote $200 it took him 9 hours...cost me $200 fo course if he had doen it in 1 hours it would still have been $200.....and i wouldnt have complained....

It really depends on who you get, where you live etc. most plumbers are expensive...tried fixing it yourself?

Both, prices can start at $35.00 per hour but if you want they can give an estimate of the required repairs.
