I know this sounds like an obvious question - I am trying to get a pair of gray sweatpants to turn completely white (for a halloween costume). I put them through the wash with about 3 cups of bleach and not a thing happened (which is bizarre b/c usually I accidentally bleach everything). I was thinking of just soaking them in bleach, but am worried it will put holes in the fabric...any ideas? Thanks!

I need to temporarily uninstall a door room to allow entry of a piece of furniture to the room. However, the door has a built-in concealed door closer (http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?isSearch=true&fh_search=concealed+door+closer&selected=products).
If I unscrewed it from the door frame, probably I won't be able to install it again. Any idea how to uninstall then re-install such a door closer?

Kitchen vent is in middle of house. Beams in ceiling need to be cut to get to outside via 25 ft direct path. Easier would be to go down to basement and then out, 40 ft. total. Can kitchen duct go down or must it go flat or up? Vent has 400cfm fan; could add another at end.

I don't mean over the access hatch, just over where the sewer pipe runs (1-1.5m below ground level).

I need to install plumbing in my Northern Michigan (cold!) hunting cabin, but want to keep the pressure tank outside and underground if possible. Does anybody make a tank that can simply be buried below the frost line to prevent it from freezing in the winter time? My idea is to bury a tank (if possible) and have it run to a drain-back outdoor hydrant. Then, when I want water inside the cabin during the summer months, I can hook a garden hose from the hydrant to the cabin plumbing, and pressurize the system by turning the hydrant on. When winter comes, I will simply unhook the garden hose and drain the cabin pipes. Idiot-proof way of preventing frozen pipes. And, I will still have accessible water, it will just be outside at the drain-back hydrant. My only roadblock to this "ingeniously-redneck" idea is that I can not find a underground pressure tank. Anybody know if there is such a thing? If so, are they durable enough that they don't need to be dug up and serviced every year?

I need a new glass cutting board, but I don't like any of the designs available & I really don't want a clear one. Is it possible to put your own design onto one of these? What is the process that the manufacturers use? I know there are companies that will personalize them for you, but I'm a "do-it-yourselfer" & I'd really like to try it for myself...

We are renovating a old bathroom that has a nasty silver razor outlet that I want to get rid of. I want it covered safely so I need to know if I to shut off power to the wires or just cap them.
Thanks

Which would be cheaper?

1. Purchasing a lot with an older house and remodeling and updated everything in it.

OR

2. Purchasing a lot and building a new house.

I am replacing elderly people's mailboxes for my Eagle Scout Project. In one area, there are three boxes on a PVC pipe over a large ditch. In order to get the boxes close to the road, there has to be a 4 foot extension from the post to the road. However, I am afraid that the entire structure will be too top heavy and will fall in towards the road. Any suggestions on designs? Thanks.

The old flooring (sheet linoleum) is still ok but now we want to install a new ceramic tile floor over the old linoleum but the adhesive is horrible from those self-stick 12x12 tiles from Lowes (laid down about 6 months ago and we hated it right away but lived with it till now). We used "goo gone" but it's not working well and then the guy at Lowes said oh no, don't use that, it takes a week for it to dry right until we can install the tile floor. Now, we're still worried about getting all that gooooooey adhesive off the floor so we can lay the ceramic tile. Any ideas????

The majority of the spacing is 1/8" but where the corners meet, since they are rounded, the gap is more that 1/8.
do I use sanded or unsanded or both.
Thaks for your help.

Hello everyone! I have a bit of a problem... I'd like to build a wooden advent calender, similar to the one pictured here: http://www.thecompanystore.com/parent/Holiday+Decor/3750/AK82X/ but I'm not quite sure where to start. Let me list my problems and the tools I have and maybe someone can help me start this thing off (please note: I'm not trying to copy the exact job, since I'll be doing my paint differently... I just like the concept and would like to adapt and personalize it for my son).

*The first problem I'm having is how to exactly build the wooden grid. I can't find anything like premade in craft stores (and no plans online), so I'd assume I have to build it myself. Can you help?

*As far as dimensions go, I'm thinking 1/2" thick grid lines and 4" square wooden boxes. Does that sound too large? Should I go with 1/4" grids and 3" boxes?

Here's what I have: 10" compound miter saw, a regular-sized Dremel tool, a Skil Router, circular saw & jig saw.

Thanks a bunch!

I recently ordered some regular packing tape and they sent me hot melt tape by accident. I called them up and they said keep it and sent me the regular tape. Does hot melt tape require special equipment? Can it be used the same way as regular packing tape?

we just had outside temperatures of around 50 degress, but the floors of my house are ice cold. I looked under my house before and there is a little room to work with. Is it possible to install insulation up under the house to help keep out the cold weather. I can only imagine what it will be like in the dead of winter.
