All Lowes and Home Depot stock poplar you will find it with the oak and maple(hardwoods) it will sometimes have a green tint to it and a very tight grain.

I'll go with Jay, but my Lowe's doesn't. If the home centers don't check with a local custom cabinet/ furntiure maker.

Michaels usually has it pretty cheap. They always have a coupon in the sunday paper as well.
