Hi,
I am replacing a twin light switch with a twin dimmer, but I am puzzled by the way the switches were wired up.
Coming into the socket are two mains cables, labeled 1 and 2.
Both earths go to the earth in the housing.
Black 1 (live i gather) goes to the top of switch 1. Black 2 goes to the bottom of switch 2.
Red 1 goes to the bottom of switch 1, and then another red cable runs from that to the top of switch 2. The red from mains cable 2 is left hanging.

The dimer I have has 2 seperate units, with a live connector, a connector for the cable to the light, and an earth. I understand I just run a cable from the earth to the earth in the housing, but what do I do with the other cables? Why is that red cable left hanging in the air?
Chris

I brought a mirror from home depot today, I brought these two mirror mounting double sided tapes as one of the sales person told me, and mounted the mirror on my wall as the instruction, but after 2 hours the mirror fell off the wall and shattered. and I still return the mirror back to home depot? For some reason I felt like I'm not responsible for this incident.

Thank you for your help

Our family has 3 pairs in the garage, and I want them off the garage floor, cause they are big and floppy, rarely used, take up floor space, and annoy me.

How can I hang them on the wall neatly?

Some sort of.... thingy to hold them neat on the wall and out the way?

I have just installed a toilet. It seemed to go pretty easy, put I just want to know one thing. If I installed it incorrectly, how long would it take to leak. I didn't replumb the tank, I just put the wax ring in and set the toilet.

Thanks for your help!

I have a couple of questions about sanding and staining wood

1. after sanding, what's the best way to get rid of all the sawdust?
2. how does the grit and quality of the sanding affect the stain? (I'm using pine wood). Does a rough sand make the stain not take as well? Does a bad (ie uneven) job sanding mean dark and light patches of stain?

Thanks !!

My wife and I are looking to build a new home next year and are interested in an energy efficiant house. We are planning to use thermosofts radiant heat flooring, indirect lighting (low voltage lighting) as well as alot of other things. I stumbled onto a site that has a lifetime warrenty on there product www.valuebuild.com. Has anyone ever used something like this? Does using just osb and the structured foam instead of 2X4 studs compromise structural integrety? Would it hold up to the weather? What are possible problems with the system ? I have lots of questions about it that I would love to talk to a contractor about. It seems like it is a possible way to go but I am half way scared to go that route since it is not common. I'm affraid I'll dump a fortune into the house and it will not hold up after a few years. Any comments?

My cousin went up to the roof, just to see how far she'd see. It was ok, but now she can't get off, because she is afraid (gets giddy).
She is just sitting up there, on the last step of the roof ladder and won't bulge. I told her not to be a baby, but come down, and she won't.
If I tell her grandmother (she lives with her grandmother who is my great grand aunt), she won't let her go to the school party next week, she said she would not go if she did something silly.
How can I get her off without telling no one, obviously?
