Take it back to the store!
Some of them do have ink in them and you will ruin what you have bought.

I think the clear answer has been stated enough. Certainly seems the better option to me also; for a couple reasons.

If I was store management; I'd want to know an employee forgot; but more important; I'd want to know why the detectors didn't pick that up as your Dad exited the store.

If it is the plastic and pin type; the capture mechanism is often magnetic. Certainly you can try many options; and it's doubtful INK is involved. INK would only lead to possible liability issue with possible faults in the system; and or damaged merchandise; something the store doesn't want; I'm sure.

First off, I searched for ink security button and came across solutions @ digg.com/tech_news from wrapping in saran wrap and cutting between the buttons, to large magnets, and someone said "Just a large rubber band". Don't know how that works.

My daughter and her family went shopping for winter coats last weekend and they left the security cap on her expensive coat! She lives in another town, and no one in our small town has these attached, so now she has to wait until she goes out of town again to get it taken off! Employers should be made aware this is happening and buyers need to double check before leaving the store that it is off. Guess we've all learned a lesson here, huh? We doubt there is ink in it, too, but how can you chance it with an expensive article of clothing/shoes? Good luck. How about calling the store and asking if there is a way to remove it yourself? Do you know an employee there you could call, too?

If you purchased them the security cap should of been removed at the store .......removing it your self would make you have to cut a hole around it,,,There is no ink in it its just plastic with a metal point on it so the metal detectors can notice it,,,,I would just return to the store with recipt and ask them to remove it
