I have a hot water knob in a bathtub that will not stop leaking. It is causing the actual spout to leak also. Is there a do it yourself link that will help me fix it? I can find tons of sites that help you fix a leaky sink or tub spout, but none of them say a WORD about the knob.

I have installed ceiling fans before with no problems until now. I just moved into this old duplex where the ac is crap and it's hot as balls outside. I finally break down and get a ceiling fan to install. So I get up to the light fixture, pop it off and to my surprise there aren't enough wires. There are four wires coming from two lines, both sets are black and white. The black wire from one line is connected to the light and the white wire from the other line is also connected to the light. And then the other black and white wires from the seperate lines are connected together. And oh I almost forgot there is no ground wire in sight. What do I do here???

I'm working on an art project. I have this thin sheet of metal I've painted on.... and I want to screw four magnets onto my wall to hold it up from the back so you won't see the hardware from the front. Any ideas?

It is insanely hot in my room. I have 4 fans all on their highest setting but they are only circulating hot air (my AC vent is in an unusual spot and the cool air coming out of it is confined to the area in front of the window). Anyway, I just draped a couple of bed sheets in front of my window (the window has blinds but they don't do anything).

My question is, if it is hot enough outside and my windows are closed, is there any chance that these sheets will cause a fire? I have had them up for about 15 minutes and they are already blocking quite a bit of heat.

Also, will these makeshift drapes cool my room at all?

We have an old laundry sink downstairs in our basement. We would like to convert this into an "emergency" toilet that can be used in case our one bathroom is occupied by someone else.

Is this a do-it-yourself project? If so, how would I do it?

Whats the best way to paint over Kitchen Paneling and cabinets?
I think both are about 50 years old with I am sure years of grease and grime. The kitchen cabinets also have decals on them that wont come off easily?

Since cool air is heavier than warm air and the basement is typically much cooler than the rest of the house (for many reasons), it was suggested to me that I could block off the HVAC air intakes with a piece of cardboard in the upstairs section of the house while creating an opening in the intake vent in the basement near my furnace so that cooler air is entering the duct work (and requiring less energy to be cooled) and then pumped throughout the house.

Would this work? Have any major drawbacks?
Thanks

I recently put a glass block window in my house and the next day i noticed a film of mortar on the brick. I wire brushed the brick and someone told me that I should use diluted meuriatic acid and spray it on the brick and then wire brush it. Will this work and is this the application for meuriatic acid. If not what could I use.

I have a 25lb bag of grout, but I don't need to use the whole bag for my project. (2 quarts of water to the whole bag).
What grout/water ratio should I use for a smaller amount?

My husband and I plan on refinishing the hardwood floors in our living and diningrooms and entrance hallway this weekend. We are renting a sander and already own a hand sander. We don't plan on staining the wood because we want the natural color of the wood. How long do you think it will take to do? Th efloors don't need to be sanded that much. maybe two passes. One with 60 the other with 120 grit sandpaper. We also plan on using a water based polyurethane. It dries faster and has less fumes.
