You people are so paranoid......by firends Ahmed, Jamil and myself are only looking to remove a tree stump with a small demo charge. I thinking maybe a couple hundred pounds should be enough

Good luck trying to manufacture C-4. Even I can't do that one. I can make something with similar properties, but I doubt if Uncle Sam would approve of me telling you how.
To answer your question....C-4 has a much higher RE factor. This makes it good for cutting steel, and concrete. It can be cut to form shaped charges increasing this effect.
There are commercially available dynamites, which you can buy in some states with little more than a drivers license.

a couple hundred pounds? Doesn't sound like stump work to me.
Don't forget to have your caps attached to live electricity and the circuit live when you place them in the boom boom powder.. Good way to win the Darwin award. Maybe fewer idiots will be around asking stupid questions..
