Big ants are crawling down the cord to my humming bird feeder. Tons of them are dying and they are all over the place. Can you think of anything I could put at the top of the cord to make them not want to go down any further?
I don't want to kill them so nothing poisoness.
Thanks!

the ants significantly disappeared first. few days later, they show up again. I made the new borax/suger mix, but they don't eat the bait.
Another related question: I used Grant's Ant Stakes half year ago, it worked. now I use the 6 month old stakes, ants don't bite them at all. I opened the stakes, there are still lots yellow, sticky maerial inside. does the poison has expiration date?

I don't want to purchase something harsh that will damage the finish or the paint. I kind of want to know something homemade that will work quick and do just as a good job as those ones you purcahse at home.

Like the natural color so don't really want to stain. Do you recommend against not staining first of all, and if we don't stain should we sand and condition first or just brush on the polyurethane? Or is there something else that would be better? what if one decides to stain darker years down the road, would some other sealer be better?

If so, how did it work for you? I've heard that the paint clogs and then it sprays with no control. Can you thin the paint?
