A patio could be another word for a yard, courtyard, deck, terrace or porch. Most commonly, a patio is referred to by many as the area by the big sliding door (or french or swing door) in the back, side or front of the house. It could be elevated from the ground and made of wood which changes its term into a deck. Most often, a patio is on the ground and usually made of concrete or paving stones or bricks. With concrete, you measure, grade, prep with base gravel and tamper, install your forms, reinforce with rebars or remesh wires, pour your concrete. With brick or paving stones, you measure and grade, prep with base gravel and tamper, prep some more with sand to level, install your pavers or bricks then . fill up gaps with sand. good luck

First, you have to decide if you want a concrete patio, brick/stone patio, or a wooden patio (deck). Then you need to decide if you want the new patio covered, enclosed or open. Then repost your question for better answers.
