I am planning on cleaning and painting a set of plastic patio furniture, and the instructions that I found at Krylon.com suggest cleaning the pieces with an ammonia-based cleaner before spray painting them. Is there a leading brand of ammonia-based cleaner that I should look for when I go to the store?

Our gas pool heater adds a huge cost onto our gas bill. It needs maintenance now. Has anyone set up one of the solar pool heaters. They look cheap & not very durable - but do they work?

A lousy contractor I hired last year to lay down 1600 sq ft of plastic laminate flooring (which I like) in a busy space convinced me not to remove some floor tiles laying on 30% of the floor. There is now a large moving "bubble" due to the initial unevenness. Can this be repaired by drilling a hole and inserting floor glue even though the floor is not glued down? Any suggestions other than the obvious nightmare of removing the entire floor and starting new?

My hardwood floors are pretty old and it looks as though small pieces of the wood have chipped away leaving not just scratchs but actually gaps in the floor (some about as long as an inch and as wide as a centimeter). Can I just use wood filler to repair or there something better?

I guess the workers put in that caulking that smells like vinegar (the acidic type) and since the bathroom sink cabinet has its doors closed most of the time, the smell just gets trapped in there. Is there a way to get rid of that smell once the caulking is in place?

I have read that you should use the type that does not smell, but it is too late for that now, since I did not do the work.

I would like to remove all carpeting and tile from the kitchen, dining room and den and replace it with hardwood floor. The house is on a concrete slab. I would like to learn to do this myself to save money. Where can I go to find step by step instructions for accomplishing this?

The pool is being built in Costa Rica with minimum temperature variation, lets say between 60F to 90F. The contractor connected the deck with the wall of the pool, and I am concerned if such approach, without the copping brick-to-deck expansion joint will not cause any problems. Concrete deck is about 10 Ft wide, 40 ft long.
Thank you for your answer.

I was at Ikea and bought a couple yards of fabric that I HAD to have because it matched my bedding set perfectly. I got home and realized I don't really have any use for fabric! I already know that I could make pillows with it, and I got one idea that I could cover a picture frame with it. Any other suggestions?

The only thing is just remember I don't have much room as my dorm is REALLY small. For example, I saw someone using fabric to cover a sofa, and I obviously can't do that because I'm not going to have a sofa in there. I also don't really want to use it to hang from the ceiling in any way. Thanks!

I forgot to add I'm not that crafty either.. I know, I probably should be if I'm asking for a project like this but I can do simple things. Thanks alot for the suggestions!

I have a old desk that is pretty beat up. There are scratches and wear, plus a 70s dark brown finish. What is the best way to make it look presentable in a old world style room? Someone told me I should get a distressing kit or strip it and restain. Any advice?

I just ripped out my old ceiling fan and replaced with a new one, with one slight problem. There's a gap between the ceiling and the fan, it is not flush against the ceiling. As a result there is a small amount of wobble to the fan, not caused by the fan blades!

The gap is less than a quarter inch, but still noticeable and there's the wobbling issue. Any ideas how to fix this?

A visitor placed a glass on my granddaughters dressing table and it acquired a water ring. I don't know how to repair it and this was a gift from her great grandmother with the promise of the rest of the bedroom set if she takes good care of it. She did not know that her friend had done this and there were coasters available to her guest.
