I have been searching the internet trying to find free patterns to make kitchen chair cushions. Not slipcovers but the actual cushion. I am fairly new to sewing so the easier the pattern the better! Thanks.

Oh yea me and my family are stationed in Japan so going to a store is not an option. If you could direct me to a detailed website it would be much appreciated. Like I said I am new to sewing so the more details the better. Thanks again!

Trace your chair seat and add 5/8 in for the seam allowance. Cut two the same size for each chair. Sew 3 1/2 sides and then insert foam or polyester or cotton filling, Sew the rest of the 4th side on the machine or by hand. Cut ties about 2 in. wide and at least 1 ft in length . Cut two for each cushion. Turn in the edges to the center and then fold it over again. Sew it on the edge of the open side. and go in reverse and back to keep it from unstitching. I would tie a knot near each end. Stitch the center of the tie to the cushion back were it will match up with the chair back and then tie it on. OR buy cordinating small rope ties and skip the sewing together. If you have ofd cushions use them as a pattern or borrow a neighbors cushion for a pattern.Chair cushions are very easy because they are 2 flat pieces and it goes very quickly. I hope you make them like you like and that you enjoy sewing as much as I have the last 44 yrs. I was making my clothes at 9 and 10 and wore them to school in the 5th grade. I still enjoy it a lot!

simply put a big sheet of paper on the chair seat, and trace around it, mark with x's where the ties need to go on the back where it ties onto the chair itself, now add about half an inch to an inch to the tracing, and lay on doubled fabric which is laying right sides together, cut around it, sew on the original tracing line, leaving the space open between the x's, trim the corners off a bit and turn right side out, stuff through the opening with poly fiber fill or whatever you plan to use. stick a foot long section of gross grain ribbon , folded in half, so you have two six inch tails sticking out to make the tie that goes into the seam next to the x, do that on each side, then top stitch through the back of the seam allowance that is folded in and the bit of the ties thats stuck inside, sew through the ties a couple of times. tie your ends off and clip thread ends. tie onto chair seat. there you are. free for the asking.

The easy way is to lay your fabric over the seat and trace the outline with chalk then cut out 1/2 inch wider for a seem allowance. You can do the same for the back.
