Another related question: I used Grant's Ant Stakes half year ago, it worked. now I use the 6 month old stakes, ants don't bite them at all. I opened the stakes, there are still lots yellow, sticky maerial inside. does the poison has expiration date?

As with all baits for ants, if it kills too quickly they will stop feeding on it. They have to live long enuf to make it back to the nest and distribute it to the colony to qualify as a bait. Boric Acid is a dessicant and kills by cutting the ants and causing them to lose bodily fluids.
Also, ants tend to not eat the same thing all the time. They need protein and carbs(sugar) and fat just like any other creature and will choose food sources accordingly.
I recommend having a professional inspect and identify the types of ants that you have so that the correct treatment strategy can be found. Not all ants are treated the same. All will require some type of perimeter treatment to stop them from entering the home.

I don't know the answers to your questions, however, I have had an ant problem too. If you mix 50/50 powdered sugar and powdered lime, it works like a charm. Find out where the ants are coming from and place some of the mixture in a shallow dish. The ants will eat it. They will take it back to the nest where they will explode. Ants are cannibals. Therefore, the other ants will eat the dead ant. Chain reaction.

We put the mixture in the cupboards, near the floorboards, and near the doorways where they were coming in.

Just make sure that you keep it away from your pets and wear gloves while handling it.

We haven't had an ant problem since.

Good luck!

Ants can recongnize something harmful after awhile. Just as we can. If all your friends and family die from eating something that looks like this, then you don't eat it right? Try putting red pepper down to get rid of the ants. They don't eat it, but for some reason they don't cross it. Good Luck!

Try mixing the borax with peanut butter and bacon grease. They will eat the bait and you will never see another ant again.
