no cause i just got a new electric cooker so i dont know which one to connect to

Either Black or Red wires in the main switch or electrical service panel or breaker box are all supposed to be "live" or "hot". White-neutral and bare copper - ground. Since this phase of work for electrical is critical, i will assume that a professional must have set this up and that the wires are in place accordingly.

It's safer to take measurements with a digital multimeter (DMM) or clamp-on meter with voltage measurement capability.

It's not uncommon for receptacles to be miswired, hot and neutral wires or the neutral and ground wires reversed or shorted.

Test YOUR wires that you are working with, rather than going by online code info.

If it is wired by code they are both live. you best bet it to get a professional to do the job for you.

electricity has no respect for wire color.......check them with a meter just to be on the safe side.

Black(according to code) and red are your hot leads.Green or no colour are your gnds,White is your neu. on 110 on 220 white and black are hot. (USA)
