Get a straw and suck real hard (joke)

Whatever is stuck in there is probably in the bottom of the toilet itself, and not the plumbing of the house. You can try a snake, or you might have to pull the toilet up, its just got two nuts that you have to loosen to pull it up. But you'll want to replace the wax seal if you do that.

First rule of plumbing, path of least resistance. Take a toilet plunger, let the toilet fill about 3/4 of the way; have the tank top off so you can control the amount of water, press the plunger slowly and pull back forcefully to dislodge the item, don't give up easily. Failing this, buy a toilet auger, allow the tool to do the work, slowly rotate through the fixture, after several tries you will discover how far the obstruction is, reach that point and try to ram the obstruction down.

Certainly you can plunge it or snake it. If it was mine; I think I'd want to know what the child flushed; so I could be aware of; or stop it from happening again.

Pull the toilet.

Shut off the small inlet valve at the rear; unbolt the hardware at the floor. Empty as much water as you can from the tank and bowl. BEFORE doing any of that go to even a small hardware store and purchase a new wax ring; with a rubber flange embedded; and new bolt down hardware.

Have a bucket and mop ready; or rags to wipe up water. lay the toilet over and check it from the bottom. If you still can't see anything; THEN snake the toilet.

Been there
You might have to take the toilet out (just unscrew the bolts on the floor and pull forward carefully )or you may be lucky and be able to reach in to the bowl to find the obstruction, which by the way stops you from biting your nails for ages.If you remove the bowl the you should be able to push it back onto the original seals if they are in OK condition a bit of washing up liquid will help .

Been there too.

Both times, the toilet needed to be removed. First time it was at my brother's house, one of the children flushed a jar lid down and it would swing back & forth but he couldn't retrieve it.

Second time (either same nephew or his brother) was at our house. It was a small green apple which impeded the flow much as you describe your problem. We removed our toilet, took it out to the backyard and out popped the apple.

You need only to buy new wax gasket, possibly new bolts as old ones are probably rusted.

Those were objects we would not want forced into our house wastewater pipes. Then the problem would cost more to repair.

Been there. Had that happen. Unless you know where the main water supply shuts off, can remove toilet and get into trap to remove object (and willing to do so), you're stuck with having to call the plumber and pay the price. The lessons we have to learn as parents. Just remind her of this episode when she's a mom. Might save both of you a few problems.

Purchase a snake from your local hardware store, or pay a plumber to come out and fix it.
Most importantly, consider buying a lock for the toilet, or better yet, keep the bathroom door shut at all times, tightly. You may need to get a hook/latch thing set up to keep her out, putting it up higher-=out of her reach.
Take care.

if you are lucky you can pull the toilet and pull the obstruction from the other side of the toilet plunging might push the obstruction down into the pipe even further causing even more problems

yes, there is a trap in the toilet, most big things will get caught in there and never make it to the main line..You're lucky you didnt have to take the toilet off the flange and flip it over to get the thing out

ether get what they call a snake.. which is a cable on a rotating spool... that will clean out most pipes
if its something that is solid like a toy ..
try gettin a flexible grabber...
looks like a long cable with pinchers on the end...
after that.. i suggest gettin a lock for the bathroom or
changing the door knob near the top of the door out of reach
