No offense to anyone; but you do clearly state waterproofing; NOT stain. Personally I prefer CABOT; but no matter. Thompsons is the most widely touted, and many here do not regard it highly. The issue is DEEPER, (No pun intended)

To directly answer the Q however...."EVERY YEAR" especially at a seasonal point; IE: Spring; or before any usual rainy season. No matter HOW you "TREAT" or with what; in a years time your wood will "SILVER" Unless it might be Redwood or Teak; etc.

Now,,, with no disrespect to you; LABELS and disclaimers by manufatures; often include FINE PRINT; and certainly I assume you get the point. What is "claimed" and what is a "reality" often differ. A real example might be the TV ads touting a knife that NEVER dulls; and if you act right now; we'll double your shipment FREE of charge, with a second knife; a set of steak knives; a bottle opener; night light; cork screw; etc. etc. etc. ALL for $19.99 A $100 value, but you have to call in the next 10 minutes. My question to that might be...If IT never dulls; why do I need another???

In all my years, and all the decks; I pressure wash once a year; re-treat; and walk off the job satisfied. BTW,,, I NEVER stain or accept a job to stain; a deck.

It depends on the region. Here in Idaho, the sun is pretty harsh. I have never seen a decking stain last beyond 3 years and most do not last much past 2. I've always preferred the Cabot's or Superdeck lines of decking stains, better oils and metallic pigments that do not fade. You can reapply without stripping off the old as long as the deck is clean and dry.

There are a lot of good answers already. If this behaviour didn't happen before, then I would be concerned too. Have you talked to your son about what's happening? My first move would be to take some time alone with my son, in a private place where you can ask hard questions without him feeling threatened or embarassed. Tell him why you're worried, and ask him if he knows why it's happening. Others already mentioned the sibling jealousy, potential for problems at school, possibility of abuse and other situations that your son might be too young to understand or verbalize. But if it's a physical problem and he can tell you how it feels without worrying that he's just going to get into trouble, then you can go to your doctor and insist that tests be done. If it's not a physical or emotional problem, it can simply be that he doesn't want to leave what he's doing to go to the bathroom and suddenly finds it's too late. You can talk about why he needs to try harder. Work together to figure out how he can solve the problem. Set him up as a good role model for his younger brother, or find something for him to get excited about that he can only do because he's so grown up and mature. With my two children, any incentive I use for my younger son to teach him, I also give to my older daughter. We're working on multiplication, and my son earns points or game time or jujubes for the flashcards that he memorizes. Whatever reward he earns, my daughter gets also. That way she wants him to succeed and she helps him. If you're potty training your younger son, you could involve your older son somehow. I know it must be frustrating for you, but I don't punishment is the way to handle it in this case. Good luck.

What is your climate like? The harsher it is, the less time it will last. But Behr is top quality so I would say at LEAST four years. Just keep your eye on it around three and a half.

It cannot be guaranteed. Watch for spots that are wearing such as the main foot traffic areas. Wood that has not completely dried will cause peeling also. Observation works better than what the label states.
