it really pees me off when you see these diy progs and they say this is dated that isdated!
we have a flat brick surround which looks nice apart from needing a new fire!
i would like to paint the brick cream but my hubby says no!!
what do you think??

Brick fireplaces are predominantly 70's, depends if you call 30+ years old fashioned. I would not paint it any colour.

As someone who just spent months getting rid of painted brick.... DO NOT PAINT THE BRICK! It is awful to get off. Also those DIY shows look good on TV but they don't always look good in person! If your brick is looking "tired" I would suggest cleaning it. Never underestimate what a good cleaning can do!

With NO OFFENSE meant at all to you; I very much enjoy NATURAL...Brick falls into that category. PAINT BRICK??? SIGH,,, especially indoors. Why?

do not spoil the effect by painting it it will look out of place
Leave it as it is it adds characture to the room

i agree with your hubby!!!
we had one of them when i was growing up and they were old fashioned then, but it really looks worse if you paint it cream!!
