You need a cover plate or a larger doorbell kit. You can find either at a local hardware store. If your doorbell assembly is large enough to cover the hole you can shim the hole to fit with pieces of wood, or use expanding foam sealant. Cut away the excess with a knife. Chime box is usually located inside near the ceiling on a wall in a hallway or closet. It is usually painted whites so as to be inconspicuous but not hard to find if you are looking for it. Have someone ring the bell and follow the noise.

With NO DETAIL at all about the size of the hole; or the manner in which the OLD was installed; hopefully you'll add that.

Beyond that; some type of SLEEVE will help FILL the hole; that you state is larger than the door bell fixture. Simple measurements might aid in your relief of the issue. IE: The diameter of the doorbell Electronic connections could fit INTO a collar that would accept them and snug into the hole you state is too large.

Again; with no offense "WE CAN'T KNOW" "where" a "Chime Box" would be appropriate to your situation.

One more with no offense...EVEN YAHOO clearly suggests; Better detailing in a Q; gets better answers.

Brick is tough, or impossible to fill in and make it look natural. Your best bet on the door end is to find something flat and large enough to cover the hole and attach the button to. Or, get a larger button that will fit the hole, then you can fill in the remaining small holes with brick mortar.

The chime box will have to go where the old one is, unless you got a wireless system, in which case it should go where you will hear the chimes.
